I glanced up, startled, to see him glaring after Percy. His face was hard, lacking the warmth I usually saw there when he was dealing with his son. It reminded me that Hunter was capable of aggression, which shouldn’t have been sexy, but it totally was.Damn.

“I wasn’t actually going to crash your trivia party,” he said. “I just came out to get a beer since Toby doesn’t have school tomorrow, but I saw Percy being a jerk, so…”

“Thanks for another save,” I said weakly. “Guess I owe you a drink.”

“Yeah, join us,” Bobbi said brightly. “You can sit beside me!”

Hunter hesitated, and Wes—in a move more insightful than I would have expected—moved down a chair, next to Bobbi. “You can take my seat.”

“All right, sure, I’ll stay until I wear out my welcome,” he joked. “I can’t say I’m the best at trivia.”

“That’ll be an improvement over last week,” Augustus said testily, and the rest of the table laughed.

Hunter sat down on my right side, his shoulder brushing mine, and his knee knocking against my leg under the table. “Sorry,” he said. “It’s a little crowded.”

“No worries,” I said faintly, even as his leg settled more firmly against mine.

Hunter’s body heat seared into my side, and I could feel each spot our arms and legs touched like brands on my skin.

Bobbi leaned in over the table, cleavage on display. “So, Hunter, do you have to pick up your son later, or is this a free night for you?”

He took a sip of beer, looking unbothered, but I felt the slight tensing of his leg against mine. “Toby is with his grandma, but I’m not sure how late I’ll stay out.”

“It’s important to take some time for yourself,” Bobbi said. “It must be hard being a single dad. I imagine you don’t have much opportunity to get out on your own.”

“Not a lot,” Hunter agreed.

Bobbi’s lips curled up in a smug little smile. “Best make the most of tonight then.”

“Sure,” he said. Then, to my surprise, he lifted his arm and laid it along the back of my chair. “That’s why I’m here, right?”

Bobbi’s gaze tracked his positioning, and she tilted her head in confusion. That made two of us.

Augustus waved the trivia answer sheet in front of my face. “What do you think, Clark?”

I blinked, realizing I’d been so focused on Hunter that I hadn’t even looked at the trivia question. The letter B was circled.

I glanced at the screen, attempting to focus on the question about an old commercial for Volkswagen. “Uh, maybe.”

Hunter leaned over for a closer look, sending my senses even more haywire. “Yeah, that’s right,” he said. “I remember that marketing campaign. We used it as a case study in college.”

“Nice,” Wes said. “Let’s show Clark’s date that we’re the team to beat.”

“Don’t call him that,” I muttered.

Hunter raised his hand to the back of my neck and squeezed gently. “Percy Helix is a sore loser. Clark can do better.”

“Yes, he can,” Augustus said firmly.

“Damn right,” Beckett added.

My phone buzzed on the table, and I groaned.

“What is it?” Hunter asked.

I showed him the display:Nana.

He grimaced and shook his head. “Well, you know my solution to that.”
