“I suppose they’ll be all right for a little while longer,” I said cautiously. “Why? What did you have in mind?”

“They have rooms above, I’m told.” The invitation in his eyes was unmistakable.

“I’m sure they’re all booked up by now,” I said. Still, I could feel the surface of my body where it pressed against him begin to simmer with anticipation.

“Not quite. I took the liberty of reserving a room while you were speaking to Galahad earlier.” The corners of his lips curled upward, coaxing my heart to skip a beat in response.

“Come,” he said softly, drawing me by the hand towards a staircase in the corner of the tavern.

His green eyes held a hint of mischief and an unspoken promise.

I followed him, of course. He was impossible to resist. Every line and contour of his face was burned into my heart. Who knew what waited around the corner for us when morning dawned? The road ahead was long and dark.

But in the meantime, here was light. Here was hope.

Here in the arms of my mate, my beloved mate.
