My only regret is leaving Jasper. He’s done nothing but protect me. For his sake, I plan on returning.

But his brothers deserve this pain. They deserve to watch me go and wonder if it’s the last time they’ll see me.

But when I really think about why this happened, I question whether there’s more to it.

If there’s a reason I should forgive them.

Because if there is, I will certainly return.

If there’s not… they can wallow in their guilt for eternity.

Chapter29

Jasper

Two days later…

“Is someone going to tell me how the fuck this happened?” I growl.

If the two males before me weren’t my brothers, they would be dead.

Or at least barely kept alive so I could flay them over and over again until they begged for an end.

While I had been trailing Zane for the past two days thinking Issy was safe, she had actually almost died.

And no one had fucking told me.

It bothers me that I hadn’t sensed it, either. We’re a bonded pair. I should have felt her brush with death, but I hadn’t.

Some theories come to mind, but I’m in no mood to entertain them.

She almost died!

My vision threatens to go red again, but I sober myself by looking at my mate, who is still alive, in the center of Zy’s massive bed. She still needs me to be here for her.

She looks so small and fragile. Her blonde hair wilts around her like the fallen petals of a rose left out in the sun too long. Her skin is abnormally pale and a winding bandage hides the majority of her neck and collarbone from me.

I’ve seen vampire feedings gone wrong. I don’t have to see underneath the gauze to know she’s lucky to have survived.

Kor’s sulking by the window while Zy takes a swig directly from a whiskey bottle.

There are several empty ones around him. It might be difficult for a vampire to get drunk, but Zy seems determined to try.

“I thought it was the fate bond doing it,” Kor says quietly, still looking out the window. “But I was wrong.”

“Doing what?” I snarl. “Making you two lose your fucking minds?” I take a step forward as I clench my fists. “Tell me who did this.”

I know it wasn’t Zane. I had been following him without fail. He’d been underground for the most part, sending out lackeys to attempt to find Issy, but he himself hadn’t gone anywhere interesting.

It couldn’t have been Royce unless he had suddenly turned into a vampire and I didn’t know it. This was clearly a vampire-related injury.

Zy doesn’t answer me. Instead, he takes a long swig of his bottle.

Kor remains calm as he peers out the window, seemingly fascinated with the view.

That tells me all I need to know.

My eyes widen as rage threatens to force my unbeating heart to stutter. “One ofyoudid this?”
