“I don’t want to leave without you,” she said with a pout, hating that she probably sounded like a petulant child.

Luc released a heavy sigh. “Amara...”

“We almost lost our mate and brothers, Luc,” Hakon interrupted. “You’re entitled to some leave.”

Drasko squeezed her to his side. “Our mate needs you,” he said to Luc.

Amara’s throat constricted and tears threatened at the backs of her eyes. Thanks, guys, she projected to them, though she was afraid to look at Luc, lest she be disappointed by his scowl.

Luc released a long breath. “You’re right.”

Amara’s gaze shot to her tracker, her chest warming at the love and tenderness reflecting in his eyes.

Luc stood and looked toward the tent door. “I’ll make arrangements.”

Fearing she’d burst into tears if she uttered a word, she simply nodded as Luc disappeared through the tent flap once again.

She stood with her mates, thanking Rone when he handed her a pair of jeans and a sweater. She suddenly realized she hadn’t had a bad dream during her brief nap. Surely, her unborn child would’ve warned her if the helicopter was going to crash.

“I want to go home,” she said. “I miss my babies.”

Hakon gave her an affirming nod. “Then let’s go.”

Chapter Thirteen

Tor

Tor opened the frontdoor after ushering Erik and Cyan Cloudclimber onto the porch. “Thank you for feeding him.” He plastered on a smile as he walked them to their car. The late morning sun had just peeked over the clouds and the temperature had dropped several degrees. A cold front was coming. He only hoped it didn’t affect air travel. “This should be your last visit. Amara and our sons are coming home this evening.”

“Oh, how wonderful.” Cyan clasped her hands together, her eyes shining with joy. “So they are all okay?”

“Yes.” Tor gave Erik a dark look. “Allof them.”

Erik’s gaze faltered for just a heartbeat, long enough for Tor to see the disappointment reflecting in his eyes. So it was Erik who’d leaked the news. Tor would remember this offense if and when Erik ever applied to become a council elder. “How did they survive the crash?”

“They are Thunderfoots, that’s how.” Tor puffed up his chest. “Drasko is clever and brave, and Amara is blessed by the Ancients with the gift of healing.”
