Turning to look at her, I asked, “What?”

Kristin chewed on thumbnail then dropped her hand. “Well, I didn’t think one strand was enough, so I snuck back in and got another strand, and I might have taken one from each of them.”

I looked at Lucas. “You don’t feel any different?”

He narrowed his eyes and focused on me. Then, as if a lightbulb went off, he slowly shook his head and scrubbed his face with his hand.

“Yes, Matt!” Lucas snapped.

Matt looked confused. “Yes to what? I didn’t ask you anything.”

Lucas jerked his head and looked at me. I couldn’t help but smile.

“The visions?” he said.

I nodded.

“I thought I was just imagining that I was sensing things before they happened.”

With a shake of my head, I smiled. “Welcome to the coven.”

Lucas closed his eyes and drew in a few deep breaths.

“That poor child doesn’t stand a chance if both of her parents are witches,” Kristin said with a giggle.

“Are you ready to admit it yet?” I asked Lucas.

He simply sighed in defeat—but he still hadn’t admitted it.

“Okay, so while we wait to see if the spell worked on Lucas, what’s going on with this one?” Kristin asked.

We all turned to look at Matt. He was holding a pencil and moving it in a circulation motion. “I command you to turn into a toad!”

I followed Matt’s gaze and had to cover my mouth when I realized he was trying to turn the key bowl into a toad.

He squeezed his eyes shut and said, “I could really go for some pizza.”

“I hope you made pizza,” Lucas said.

“She made enchiladas,” Lucy responded.

“That really stinks; doesn’t pizza sound good right about now?” Matt asked as Sarah let out a sigh of frustration.

“We don’t have pizza, Matt!”

The doorbell suddenly rang, and Matt opened it. A young boy wearing a T-shirt that saidMario’s Pizzastood there looking confused.

“Um, I don’t know why I’m here—maybe I got the address wrong. Did you guys order pizza?”

Matt grinned. “Pay the man, Lucas!” He took the three boxes of pizza out of the boy’s hands and headed toward the dining room. Lucas glared at Matt as he walked to the door and asked the kid how much we owed.

Lucy, Mom, and Kristin all followed Matt into the dining room while Kristin declared that if there was pepperoni and mushrooms, she wanted a piece.

“What about the dinner I made?” I asked.

Kristin gave me a one-shoulder shrug. “It’s Mario’s, Hollie!”

I rolled my eyes and watched Lucas walk up to us.
