Chapter 7

Thursday, May 24

“NICE PLACEyou’ve got here.” The latex gloves were in my pocket, and I fought the urge to slip my hand into it, to brush them with my fingertips.

The guy beamed. “Thanks. I like it.”

I glanced at the bookcases. “I’m guessing you’re an avid reader.” The spines revealed our tastes were nothing alike, but I wasn’t there to talk books. I was simply biding my time until the perfect opportunity arose.

“I wanna talk about you.” He looked me up and down in obvious approval. “This is a different look for you.” His eyes gleamed. “Not complaining.”

I managed a shrug. “I prefer casual.” It was an effort to sit still, and my heart hammered. Not yet.Wait. I’d already decided when I was going to make my move, but the anticipation made my blood zing and my body tingle. Maybe it was because so little time had elapsed since the last one.

Is it too soon?

I guessed not. I’d anticipated wariness—that would have been understandable in the circumstances, given that it was only nine days since my latest victim had been discovered—but I watched him relax visibly as soon as he saw me at the door. We’re one big happy family, aren’t we?It had been so easy to slip names into my text, names I knew he’d recognize and trust.

Foreknowledge was a wonderful thing.

You think you’re safe. You think you can trust me.

He was about to find out how wrong he was, on both counts.

He cocked his head. “You know, you were the last person I expected to see.” He grinned. “Especially as you look nothing like the pic you sent.”

“Yeah, well… I had my reasons for that.”

“I didn’t even know you were gay. You’re not out, are you?”

I matched his grin. “Like I said… reasons. Was I a good surprise or a bad one?”

That gleam was back. “Oh, definitely a good one. In fact, can I make a confession?”

“They say it’s good for the soul, don’t they?”And your soul is going to need all the help it can get.

He leaned forward in a conspiratorial fashion. “Every time we meet? I can’t help fantasizing about you.”

“Me?”

He nodded. “Never believed I’d get my wish, though.”

I could see him getting more comfortable, bolder….He feels in control.

Perfect.

I leaned forward until my mouth was inches from his. “And what did you wish for?” I whispered. I could flirt too.

His direct stare locked onto my face. “You in my bed.” His hand was on my knee, drifting higher. “Your dick up my ass.”

I grinned. “Well, you know what they say. Be careful what you wish for.”Because you’re going to get it, just not the way you expect. My blood thrummed, my senses heightened.Stick to the plan. I pointed to the empty bowl on the coffee table. “Did we eatallof them?”

He laughed. “I guess you like sour cream and chive pretzels. Well, there’s plenty more where they came from.” He gave my thigh a squeeze. “I’ll be right back.” He got up and walked into the kitchen, his firm ass swaying.

I waited till I heard the cabinet door open, then added Rohypnol to his glass. I gave it a quick swirl, then stuffed the bottle into my pocket, my heart surging into overdrive.

“Hey,” he called out from the kitchen, and I froze. “About that dick pic you sent… please, tell me that was yours.”

I relaxed. “You’re about to find out.”
