What the hell is taking Holly so long?

There's literally a drugstore two minutes away. I can't imagine why it would take Holly forty minutes to walk into a store, grab a pregnancy test and walk back. At this rate, Ryan and Luke will beat her home.

I'm just about to text her when the front door opens, and Holly breezes in with a plastic bag full of stuff. She can never go into a store and just buy the thing she went in for. She always comes out with about eighteen other things she didn't know she needed until she saw them.

"What took you so long?" I ask, eying the bag.

"Too many choices. I didn't know what to buy."

Frowning, I grab the bag and empty it onto the table. There are at least six different pregnancy tests here, and a box of condoms.WTF.

"Ah, Holly, you know condoms defeat the purpose of getting pregnant, right?" I can't help but laugh. Holly is such a scatterbrain when she's nervous.

"I'm not a total idiot," Holly rolls her eyes. "Those are for school. Luke, Chase, and Ryan are doing the safe sex talk with high school students tomorrow."

Right! I forgot. The team has been working a lot with the school board. Ever since the success of the healthy eating campaign, the Northmen and the school board have been collaborating on several subjects to encourage kids to educate themselves on issues like social justice, overcoming prejudice, and safe sex.

"How many babies do you think you're having?" I laugh again, picking up a bunch of pregnancy tests. "I'm pretty sure you only need one."

"I know, but what if I mess it up? And I didn't know which brand was the best or the most accurate, so I bought one of each. Just in case."

"In case of what?" I ask incredulously. "Don't you think this is overkill?"

Poor Holly. She and Luke want this so badly I can practically hear her ovaries crying out, demanding to be fertilized.

Holly spends the next fifteen minutes reading reviews online for the pregnancy tests she just purchased, trying to determine which one to use.

"Just pick one!" I yell, growing impatient.

I grab the bag, load up the pregnancy tests and push Holly toward the bathroom.

"What if it's negative? What will I tell Luke? He wants this baby so much, Avery. I don't want to disappoint him."

I smile a Holly sympathetically, then wrap my arms around her and hug her.

"You couldn't disappoint that man if you tried. Luke loves you, and you've only been trying for a couple of months. Sometimes making babies takes time. I know Luke is used to getting everything he wants on the first try, but he might have to be patient. Plus, it's not like you two don't enjoy the making part of making babies."

We both laugh, and Holly blushes. I can't believe that girl still blushes when talking about sex.

Holly unwraps one of the tests and reads the instructions. Then, she unwraps another and reads the instructions for that one too.

"Which one should I do?" Holly's doe eyes look up at me. "What if I do it wrong?"

"It's peeing on a stick, Holly. There isn't a wrong way to do it."

"Are you sure?"

"Oh my god, Holly! Give me that," I demand, grabbing one of the tests from her hand. I quickly read the instructions, walk over to the toilet, pull down my pants, pee on the stick, flush and then set it on top of the toilet tank. "There. That's how you do it. Now you go."

Holly mimics my actions, peeing on the stick and setting it beside mine. We wash our hands in silence while we wait.

"How long do we wait?" she asks nervously, avoiding looking at the tests sitting on the toilet.

"The box said three minutes, but we'll wait five minutes just in case."

I set my timer on my phone, and we wait. Holly hums and fidgets, glancing every five seconds toward the tests on the toilet like they might explode. It feels like the longest minutes in the history of the world. When my phone beeps, Holly jumps. Her eyes dart to mine, unsure.

"You look. I can't."
