“Are you okay?”

I smiled and told her the only truth I could. “I am while I’m holding you.”

She reached up and touched my face. “It’s okay if you’re not, Ash. You forget I know everything.”

“You’re too fucking good for me,” I whispered, carrying her up another flight of stairs. And another. Roman waited for us at the top. I set her on her feet, reluctant to take my hands off her, but unable to wait for her to see her room and everything else. “You want to see your room?”

“I want to make sure my Alpha is okay first.”

The way she saidmy Alphahad my heart pounding, and I couldn’t keep my lips to myself. She moaned into my mouth, the scent of her perfume whirling between us almost too quickly. Our girl was already turned on. Probably more than that.Well done, Jace.

“I’m good. And I’ll be even better once you see your room.”

She narrowed her eyes like she didn’t believe me, but I also saw the eagerness and curiosity there. I squeezed her hips. “Go.”

Sloane only hesitated for a fraction of a second before she darted past Roman and into her room. I heard her gasp. The four of us followed her, Jace and Gabriel trailing behind where they’d followed us up the stairs.

I loved watching her take in all the little details with wide eyes. Jace stepped up next to me and spoke low. “She says she doesn’t like surprises. I think we’ll get her to see differently.”

“The aquarium?”

His smirk told me everything I needed to know.

Gabriel went into the room first. “Do you like it, little one?”

“That’s an understatement. I’m never leaving. You’ll have to replace me at the company because I’m never going outside again. Only staying in here.” She curled up in the round swing, rocking back and forth.

“Noted,” Gabriel said.

“There is another surprise,” I said, nodding to the box she hadn’t noticed on the bed. “Roman’s idea.”

She glanced at the box. “What is it?”

“Go see.” It was the first thing Roman had said since she got back.

The box was a bit of an odd shape, almost like a little house, and I wondered if she would figure out what it was before she opened it. It didn’t look like it.

She took the top and opened it. “What—”

Sloane’s face went slack before she turned to look at all of us. “Really?”

Roman nodded. “Yes.”

There was a look of awe and emotion on her face as she reached into the box and pulled out an orange kitten. He was small, gangly, and excited. He was already scrambling up onto her shoulder and rubbing his face on hers. Sloane picked him up and held him to her chest. “What made you do this?”

Roman looked at her. He was hard to read sometimes, but I saw how happy he was thatsheloved the kitten. Also a little flustered with the attention on him. “I saw you with Stormy.”

She laughed. “I think Stormy likes you more than she likes me. Does he have a name?”

Roman slowly crossed to her, drawing his finger over the little cat’s head where he cuddled in her arms. “The adoption place gave him one, but you can change it if you want.”

“What is it?”

“Mango.”

Sloane looked down, her smile so wide it must have hurt. “Mango. That’s perfect. He’s perfect.”

Roman kept scratching behind his ears. “You like him?”
