My smirk reflected hers. “Because my Alpha needs to make sure you’re taken care of in every way. Especially because of this.” I slipped her phone into the front pocket of the hoodie. “And even with the nap, you’re tired.”

Her pout was so fucking cute. “Fine.”

I dug around in my drawers to find something of mine small enough to fit her. In the end the pair of boxers I handed her had to be rolled several times, but it would work. She laughed. “I think we’ll need to make some kind of arrangement. We’re not going to my grandmother’s house with me in your boxers.”

“It sounded like she might appreciate that.”

Sloane rolled her eyes, but she smiled. “She probably would. But I want my own clothes.”

I stared at her, instincts rising, but I hesitated. This was all new, and I didn’t want to smother her. She met my eyes. “What?”

“Can I carry you?”

Her cheeks turned a shade of pink I loved—more because it meant she was recovering from earlier—and she nodded. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

Sweeping her legs from under her, I lifted her up, kissing her as we walked to the elevator to go downstairs. Now that I knew what it was like to hold her in my arms, I didn’t know if I would be happy with her anywhere else.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

________

SLOANE

Jace had given a giant middle finger to cooking, and I didn’t blame him. Most of the time I did the same thing. And coming into the kitchen to find a giant spread of tacos and other food was amazing.

Roman watched me after he put me down, his gaze like a physical touch. I didn’t mind it. After… however many days of them doing nothingbuttouching me, it was a little like going through withdrawal.

“What are you making, baby girl?” Jace asked, looking at the plate I was piling food on. A base of crunched up taco shell, meat, cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Sometimes I went for guacamole but I wasn’t feeling it tonight.

“Taco salad.”

Ash coughed. “Tacowhat?”

I looked at him and lifted an eyebrow. “Did the heat damage your hearing?”

His eyes filled with heat that contrasted with his amusement. “Just because Gabriel is the only one who’s said it doesn’t mean he’s the only one who would enjoy spanking you, sweetheart.”

Turning so I looked over my shoulder at him, I stuck out my tongue and caught Roman smothering a laugh. “I said taco salad.”

“And what, exactly, is taco salad?”

“It’s tacos,” I told him. “But not in a shell. You just mix it up and put it on a plate. Or a bowl. You guys have never done this?”

Ash lifted his taco. “Can’t say that I have.”

“Missing out.” I turned to the fridge and opened it before I felt warmth against my back.

“What are you looking for?” Jace asked.

“You can’t judge me if I tell you.”

He laughed softly. “I’m not going to judge you.”

“Ranch dressing?”

“Right here.” He tapped the door. “I’ve never tried that with tacos.”

I put probably too much on my plate so I could mix it up. “Don’t knock it till you try it.”
