The call ended, and Sloane looked at the phone. “Those texts said he’d been over to my apartment every day. If she hasn’t seen him? What does that mean?”

Ash and I looked at each other. It meant the asshole was outside, watching to see when she came home so he could corner her and force her to let him into her apartment. So Noreen wouldn’t be able to say anything to him.

The poison in his messages and the threats…

Rage tinted my vision, a growl growing in my chest. I didn’t have any words. Not real ones. My tongue was tied with anger and fear for my Omega. I would tear the man limb from limb if he touched her. If she went back there—

“Roman?”

I couldn’t stop the growling in my chest, focused on the asshole who thought he owned the woman in front of me.

Sloane crawled across the bed to me, straddling my legs and taking my face in her hands. “Hey, I’m right here, okay? I’m right here. I promise I won’t go alone. At least one of you guys is going to be with me if I have to go back there.”

My arms came around her waist, holding her to my body. The growl lessened, but it didn’t disappear. She was here. Safe. Would be as long as she stayed right here with me.

She clung to me just as hard, telling me without words that she was scared, and that wasn’t acceptable.

“I’d rather you not go back at all, sweetheart,” Ash said. “We can get your things while you stay here.”

“Is it weird that I want to say goodbye? Not just to Noreen, but to the apartment?”

“Not at all. We’ll just be careful.”

“I’m sorry,” Sloane whispered in my ear. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Shaking my head, I manage to find a single word. “No.” I meant it in the way that she didn’t need to be sorry. But I also didn’t want to let her go.

A knock at the open door. Jace, now showered and dressed. “Thought I’d find you all somewhere. You hungry, baby girl?”

“I could eat something.” Her face was still buried in my neck.

Jace picked up on the vibe. “What’s wrong?”

Ash put his hand on her ankle. “You want to tell them?”

My little firefly shook her head into my neck.

“Okay,” Ash said. “Why don’t you grab some shorts from Roman before you come down, okay?”

At that I felt her smile, and my whole body perked up remembering she was naked beneath my sweatshirt. It would be so easy…

“I will,” she said.

Jace’s face was troubled as Ash put a hand on his shoulder and guided him out of the room. I needed another minute holding Sloane.

“Are you all right?”

I was good enough to let my purr rise instead of a growl. “I will be.”

“Good.”

“But if he touches you—”

“He won’t. It was over before I even ran into Ash again. Completely over. Even if you all weren’t here, his ass would be on the sidewalk.”

I slid us to the edge of the bed, managing to avoid my sketchbook and her phone. “If I don’t give you some shorts I’m going to fuck you again.”

Sloane raised an eyebrow. “And that’s a problem… because?”
