“Well, in a way, it is. Especially if it’s the reason that you’re wound so tightly. Which I get …”

“Addy,” Madison cut off. “I love you, but what is the thing you called me about?”

“I was thinking about why I haven’t shifted yet like our other sisters, even though I’ve found my bond. And before you say anything, I know you have, too. Anyway, I have a theory.”

“Well,” Madison said, trying not to get irritated with the prolonged build-up. “Let’s hear it.”

“I think that since we are twins, webothneed the mating bond in order to feel the connection to our inner wolves.”

Madison rubbed her chin. Could it really be that simple?

“You think?”

“I do. But in order to really test this theory, I need you to get busy and kick it into gear with Fletcher. Mate with him already.”

“I will. I’m on it,” she lied.

“Are you, though?” Addy questioned her. “If that were the case, you two would have been hitched already. Word on the street is that you’re the holdup.”

“I don’t understand where you get your ‘word on the street’ from.”

“It doesn’t matter. The point is, it’s usually right. So, if you want to prove this theory, mate with Fletcher. The bond is needed until proven otherwise.”

Madison rolled her eyes at the phone. “Okay, I know.”

“Don’t you want this?”

“I do, it’s just …”

“You’re scared.”

“Yes.” Addy was the only one Madison could or would fully admit that to.

Addy sighed. “I get it. Not only do you question his feelings for you, but you’re scared it won’t be enough for us to shift.”

“Correct again. But enough of this chit-chat. I need to get the store tidied up.”

“Okay, fine. I know when to drop it. But call me soon and keep me posted.”

“I always do.”

They spoke about their love for each other and ended the call.

Part of Madison agreed with Addy about the shifting part. But right now, she needed to handle the store and worry about Fletcher later.

She splashed cold water on her face and forced the negative thoughts away.

She had just dried her face when her door flew open. Before she could respond to Fletcher’s sudden presence, he was across the room right in her face, his own countenance full of anger.

She couldn’t tell if he was angry with her, but if he was, she wasn’t going to apologize.

Madison was about to run him off when he suddenly pulled her into his arms.

“I’m so glad you weren’t hurt. Who was it?”

“I don’t know or really care, to be honest with you. I took care of them.”

He raised his eyebrow slightly. “Let me at least see the security footage.”
