“Really, Sophia. I’m okay. Like you said, I got my job and all those kids. I’m good.”

Her friend stared at her as if she were holding something back.

Lily took a more serious tone. “What is it?”

“There may be another option that I’ve heard about.”

“Why haven’t you told me this before?”

Sophia shrugged. “I just heard about it recently, but I wanted to investigate it myself just to make sure it would be worth it.”

Lily was forever thankful to have such an understanding, die-hard friend like Sophia. She was always watching out for her, even though Lily was more than capable of handling herself.

“So, what did you find out?”

“Well, there’s this Shifter Surrogacy Agency. Have you heard of it?”

Lily shook her head.

“Okay, well, there’s this place that alpha shifters from clans, packs, and whatever other groups they call themselves pay to find someone to have a child with.”

“Alpha shifters?” Lily knew what they were. She also knew that the local group, as Sophia put it, was a tiger pride.

The shifters intermingled with the humans when going about their everyday business and deals. They all melded well. Lily just didn’t know much about them. Hell, no one really did unless you were a part of them.

“They’re so closed off,” Lily said. “I thought they only got with each other?”

“No. I mean, yes, they do, but they also branch out. Especially the alphas, from what I’ve heard. They seem to have limited options.”

“Interesting, but I just don’t know much about them.”

“You wouldn’t go in blind. The agency would answer the basic questions, and then I’m sure the person they match you with explains the rest. You know, shifter specifics to their group.”

Lily reached for her glass and drained the contents as she mulled it over. She got up to pour herself another. “More?” she asked.

Sophia showed Lily her still-full glass. “I’m good.” She smiled. She turned and knelt on the couch as she continued her conversation. “So? What do you think?”

“I don’t know, Sophia …”

“It wouldn’t hurt to at least apply, right? I mean, if it goes well, not only would you get the baby you have been wanting, but probably a sexy-ass shifter who knows what he’s doing between the sheets.”

Lily scoffed. “Sophia!” She walked back to the couch with her refill.

“You know I’m not wrong.”

Lily sat and tried to create a mental list of why she shouldn’t do it.

Being scared was her number one reason, but there wasn’t really anything other than that.

If she really wanted a baby, why not do it this way? At least give it a try.

“I need to know more about it first. What else do you know?”

Sophia’s brown eyes squinted as her smile grew.

Lily could feel her own grin rebound off of her friend’s.

“I know that shifters are extremely family-oriented.”
