Lily rolled her hazel eyes. “Everyone knows that.”

“I know the website to go on to fill out the application and that it won’t keep you wondering for months like the adoption agency or any of the others. And that you have the right to refuse the offer, but only after you meet with the potential daddy and both of you decide whether to move forward or not.”

“But in the end, it’s up to both of us?”

“Yes.”

Lily liked the sound of it being an even playing field in a sense. She got incredibly nervous at the thought that it was all up to first impressions to make a life-changing thing succeed. Still, it made it exciting, and she was slowly beginning to think that maybe this would be worth a try. Or maybe it was her slowly building wine buzz that was giving her courage and egging her into it.

Lily set her glass down with a thud. “Get my laptop.”

Sophia clapped her hands together excitedly, then she reached over for Lily’s computer and handed it to her.

“Okay, now where do I go?”

Sophia leaned over Lily and typed in the web address. Lily pressed enter.

It took the screen to a page that laid out the basic info of what the Shifter Surrogacy Agency catered to. It was very simple and easy to navigate.

“Go toapplications.”

“I see it.” Lily clicked on it and looked over the PDF displayed for her to fill out. She glanced over the questionnaire.

It all seems basic enough. What would be the harm in filling it out?

“You know you’ll wonder if you don’t try,” Sophia said, seeming to read Lily’s mind.

“I know.” She stared at the cursor blinking on the name box. “Fuck it.” She started to fill out the boxes and questions as Sophia giggled enthusiastically beside her.

Lily’s mood lifted as she and her bestie sat on the couch and laughed throughout the application process. She was staying honest with her answers, wanting the best match possible if these people were as good as they promised.

“What do you think my chances are for getting matched up?” she asked as she got down to the last couple of questions.

“Good. I don’t know anyone that I have talked to who didn't get matched. On top of it, they all still seem to be with who the agency set them up with.”

“Well, obviously. They had a child together.”

“No, that’s not what I mean. I mean, they got married and made a real family out of it.”

Lily froze. “Why didn’t you mention those odds when you were talking this up before?”

“I don’t know. Just seemed more relevant now.”

Lily huffed at her friend’s negligence as she turned back to the screen. She reread the last question three times before she realized there was no mistake.

“You’ve got to be kidding.”

Sophia set her third slice of pizza down and looked over Lily’s shoulder at the screen. “What?”

Lily just pointed to the question.

Sophia busted out laughing. “Oh, this is even better! No one said anything about that.”

“Oh, gee, I wonder why,” Lily replied sarcastically.

“I think you’d get more of a success rate if all dating sites did this.”

“This isn’t about dating. It’s about …”
