Lily twisted her dark brown hair around her slender fingers to resist chewing the nails down to the quicks.

You’ve got this. Just take a deep breath and enjoy yourself. Stop being a weirdo. Just

meeting long enough to get to know each other.

She calmed herself by looking around the walls of the café. Lily had been here a few times when she was in the area. She wasn’t one to really take herself out. But now, she remembered some of the paintings from before.

Each booth had its own little black-and-white photo of the town over a century ago or a western-mountains type of painting.

Lily’s eyes landed inside her own booth. It happened to be a painting of a cowboy holding a lantern while he trudged alone in a blizzard of blues and blacks. The only glow in the entire painting was from the lantern he held out in front of him.

She scanned and retraced the life-like painting.

“Here ya go,” Heather interrupted, causing Lily to gasp slightly. The waitress ignored her dramatics, sliding her coffee in front of her with two glasses of water and two menus.

“Thank you.”

“I’ll be back.” Heather went to attend another table, leaving Lily to her humiliation.

She dumped a creamer into her black mug and stirred. Before she was able to get the first drop past her lips, a chill shot through her body.

Her head looked for a vent or if a door was being held open. She went to take a sip again, and the same feeling happened, only with a pull.

Without thinking, Lily turned her head in the direction of an extremely handsome man walking into the café.

He was tall, verytoned, and had the perfect T-shirt to show it. It clung to all the right parts and hugged his biceps ever so gently.

Lily realized she was staring and jerked her head back, embarrassed.

Wow, you’re on a roll tonight.

She waited for the sexy stranger to walk past her, but he never did. Instead, he stopped right beside her.

“Lily?”

She looked up and instantly regretted it. His eyes demanded her attention with the intensity of their green hues. And his smell … His smell was as intoxicating as his piercing green eyes. It made her lady parts remind her very aggressively how long it had been since she had gotten laid.

“Are you Lily?” he asked again.

She shook her head out of her daze and tried to compose herself.

“Yes, yes, I am.” She stood to shake his hand.

He flashed a smile at her response. “I’m Gabriel. Nice to finally meet you.”

Lily was trying not to stare, but his face was like its own art piece, no matter how cheesy that sounded. His dark-cropped hair and black eyebrows contrasted dramatically with his luminous eyes.

“Oh, uh, likewise,” she finally responded. “Please, sit. There’s a menu if you’d like anything. Besides water.” She chuckled nervously. She was still trying to recover from how insanely hot he was.

Sophia was right. She wondered what else she may have been right about as she thought over their “what to expect” conversation when it came to shifters.

The thought made the core of her body pulse with sudden need. She crossed her legs to relieve some of the building pressure.

She did not understand why his presence was causing this intense reaction in her. It was like she had never seen a man before.

We would have some gorgeous babies, she mused as the waitress returned to take Gabriel’s order.

Lily’s eyes flicked up to Heather. She observed how much more attention she was suddenly seeming to pay to her. Or, to them, honestly. It made her smirk at the sudden change in demeanor.
