"Girgire," Seth whispered.

"You two were destined to be together. It's been a long time, a very long time. A long journey. But you are both finally here," Ishtar said.

Another life rushed by my eyes, and I saw Anunit being groomed for our meeting with the seven Princes of Darkness, just like I was. Later, she was the bride of my mate's mortal enemy and we never spoke, but I remembered her, just like I remembered her in many other lives.

Lilith looked up and our eyes met, and in that moment, I knew she remembered me too.

It was an uneasy feeling. We were the same in so many ways, but every time we met, we had been enemies of sorts.

I would have liked to be friends with her and hoped that in this lifetime we finally would.

Itwaslatebythe time we finally went to bed. A different bed, in a different room. Azazel moved us into the royal chambers, which were far more spacious than the one we had used before, but I missed our window. For some reason, the royal chambers didn't offer that.

It didn't matter because I was out the moment my head hit Azazel's chest, and I suspected he, too, succumbed to some sleep that night.

He had told me previously that Daemons didn't require as much sleep as humans or Nayphyllyms; he had even hinted that once we were in space, I wouldn't need as much rest either.

Predictably, I had nightmares while I slumbered and when I first heard a terrible gurgling sound, I thought it was part of my dream, but when something wet hit my face and hands pulled me off Azazel's chest, I realized this wasn't part of a dream but reality. A terrible reality.

Adrenaline flooded me and I instantly woke up as somebody pulled me upright, and my fist automatically swung out at whoever was yanking me from Azazel.

"Umph," the person pulling exclaimed, letting go of me.

Expecting to see Azazel's brothers reneging on the alliance, I was surprised to stare into Alex's face and see another man I didn't recognize bent over from the jarring blow I had delivered to his kidney.

"Fay, it's all good. It's me, Alex," Alex said.

Confused, I stared at him. What was he doing here?

"Ben and I came to rescue you."

Ben?

Rescue me?

What the fuck?

Another gurgling sound from the bed made me turn my head, and in horror, I stared at Azazel's blood-covered body. Blood was everywhere, on him, the sheets, the pillow as he struggled to sit up. Blood, there was so much blood.

"What have you done?" I screamed, realizing Alex or Ben had tried to cut Azazel's head off but Azazel must have fought them, and they only succeeded in cutting his throat.

Undiluted, animalistic panic overcame me. This couldn't be happening, not now. Not when we were finally safe. I couldn't watch him die again, I just couldn't.

How much blood could an alien-vampire lose before he died? I tried to find comfort in Azazel's words when told me a while ago that blood loss wouldn't kill him, but if a Daemon lost too much, he would become catatonic until Nayphyllym blood awakened him.

"Hold her back," Ben panted from the ground, slowly getting up.

Azazel, my heart constricted at the sight of him trying to get up to get a hold of Ben, who was closest. The worry in his eyes for me nearly killed me.

Before Ben had a chance to get on his feet, I delivered a kick to his head that would have broken his neck had I worn shoes. As it was, I thought I broke a toe or two because the pain in my foot as it connected with his skull made me see stars.

Ben, however, sunk back to the ground with another oomph.

"Fay, please!" Alex yelled, grabbing my elbow to stop me from kicking at Ben again.

I railed on him. My fists flew against him, but only landed on his arms as he raised them to deflect my blows. Big mistake. He was so focused on my fists that he didn't see my kick going straight for his manhood.

The moment he went down with a cry, I turned. I had no intention of fleeing the room or kicking him again; I only wanted to get to the knife by Azazel's bedstand. The same one drenched in his blood, making me think Alex and Ben had used it to cut his throat.
