It didn't matter though. I stepped over Ben and reached for the knife, precariously balancing on one leg because Ben's body was too close to the nightstand, not giving me enough room to put both feet down.

A vicious yank on my other leg made me lose my balance right when my hand reached for the knife. My fingers barely wrapped around the handle before I fell on top of Ben, who moaned.

"Hold her, Ben," Alex yelled and pulled on my foot while I kicked out with my other.

"Let me go. You don't understand," I screamed.

"Fay, please, you have been brainwashed. We need to get out of here," Alex tried to reason.

I sobbed. Brainwashed? Nothing could be further from the truth.

On the bed, Azazel's moaning was turning quieter, and I feared he didn't have much time left. From the corner of my eye I watched him sitting up and trying to get to his feet, but instead he rolled partially off the bed.

Alex yanked on my foot again, moving my body over Ben, and giving me a chance to cut the wrist of my other hand. Blood instantly flowed over my forearm. All the while, I kicked out at Alex to keep him away.

"Fay, please," Alex begged, relentlessly pulling me closer to him. "Ben, wake the fuck up man!"

Ben moaned underneath me while Alex pulled me away from the bed.

I twisted my body around, let go of the knife, and found purchase on the bedframe, preventing Alex from easily pulling me further. I kicked out again while Ben moved underneath me, inadvertently lifting me up as he slowly rose.

Alex let go of my ankle, probably worried about breaking it, since I was turning while Ben was lifting me. I didn't have time to appreciate it though as I used Ben's momentum to rise on my own with my back to Azazel, who was partially hanging off the bed. I had to guess where his throat was as I moved my hand to allow my blood to dribble over his injury.

"Grab her, Ben," Alex yelled again as Ben finally made it up into a standing position next to me.

"Fay, please. I'm Ben, your brother. We came to save you."

He stretched his hands pleadingly toward me.

"Save me?" I scoffed, fighting my wooziness as my blood leeched out from my body, and I prayed it found its target: Azazel's wound.

"Yes, Mom and Dad contacted us and—"

I didn't let him finish. "Mom and Dad?" I asked, bitingly.

Ben sighed. "Please, it's a long story, and we don't have much time. We still need to get to Lilith."

"Lilith?"

"Just grab her, Ben. Can't you see the aliens have brainwashed her?" Alex called impatiently.

Something stirred on the bed, Azazel!

"Shit. Ben, grab her, she's doing something to the alien!" Alex yelled.

Ben grabbed my waist and pulled me up. I screamed and brought my interlocked fists down on his head, but this time he seemed to anticipate my move and leaned his head to the side just in time for me to graze him.

"She's bleeding," Ben shouted.

"Fay, what have you done?" Alex moved forward and grabbed my flailing hands, slick with blood.

With a roar that threatened to shatter my eardrums, Azazel rose from the bed so quickly that he was a mere shadow, then punched Alex in the face so hard, the man let go of me and was thrown against the wall.

Ben pushed me to the bed and tackled Azazel.

Everything became a blur to me. The three men looked like six as the room began to spin around me, and I realized I was losing too much blood. With the last of my wits, I grabbed my cut wrist with my other hand to staunch the flow.

Enraged, Azazel pummeled Ben while kicking out against Alex. A new worry overtook me. He would kill the two men.
