"Even though he's occupying a lot of time at my favorite spot," Brogan complained, handing me the squirming infant.

I laughed. "You reclaimed your territory there last night."

"And I will again, tonight and the night after." He smiled, watching Kellup latch on to my breast to fill his tiny stomach.

"The war party has probably reached the Vandalls' lands by now," Brogan said, turning toward the window to stare out at the Dark Sea, where no more Vandall ships lay anchored.

I knew it sat ill with him that he wasn't part of the war party, but during the last months of my pregnancy, I had been confined to the bed and the healer had worried that Kellup might be too heavy for me to carry and even bear.

I was glad for it though and my heart went out to Damaris, because Vandor together with Kendryx, Chrissy, and the newly appointed warlords had left for the Vandalls' shore a couple of months ago.

We only received word sporadically when a ship returned with prisoners or wounded, but from those accounts, the war was progressing in our favor. The humans weren't true matches to our warriors without their fancy technology, which had been destroyed thanks to Kendryx and Chrissy.

Chrissy had prophesied that with the human war party's failure, the Terran Confederation would not send any more ships to Thyre. There were other worlds out there, that could be conquered far more easily than ours.

So now it was only a matter of suppressing the humans who still fought us before the Vandalls could reclaim their lands. And with us and them fighting together, I doubted we would ever be at war with them again and was happy that something good came out of this. Already Gryck and Uthar were talking about trade agreements.

"I'm sorry you had to stay back with me." I told Brogan for the umpteenth time.

And for the umpteenth time, he rushed to my side and said, "I'm not. I'm right where I needed to be. I love you Alahna, don't ever forget this. You and Kellup are my world. Cassair is more than capable of representing the Grymburg domain on the Vandalls' lands."

I smiled at him, filled with so much love I nearly exploded.

"I love you too." I stroked his face with my free hand.
