“Me,” I blurted out. “She’ll be staying with me. We’ll take care of her.”

The nurse smiled. “Good, but tonight, she’s in our hands. You can go home.”

“No.” I shook my head. “I’m staying.”

“Ramsey, Lily,” Dee said.

“Lily is in good hands with Izzy,” I assured her. “Trust me, I don’t think I could pry Lily out of Izzy’s arms right now.”

“Thank you,” she whispered.

“Do you have your keys to your place in your purse?” I asked. “I’ll go over and get you some clothes and whatever else you need. You don’t have a cat or something I need to feed, do you?”

She smirked. “No. You don’t need to go to my place. I’ll tell Colleen.”

“Colleen?”

Her eyes popped open. “I need to call Colleen,” she said. “I was supposed to cut her hair tonight after work.”

“Is your phone in your purse?” I asked.

“It should be,” she answered.

“Normally, I would never dare go into a woman’s purse, but I’m not sure you’re up for it,” I said.

She tried to smile. “Side pocket.”

I found the phone. The screen was cracked but it still functioned. “Can I get you something to eat?” I asked her. “I’m going to go get some coffee.”

“Tea,” she said. “Please. I don’t care what flavor. My throat is killing me.”

“I’ll get you some tea,” I said and gave her a quick kiss. “I’ll be back in a minute.”

I called Izzy on my way to the cafeteria to check on Lily. “How is she?”

“She’s good,” Izzy replied. “Cam, on the other hand, is an absolute wreck.”

“What?” I asked.

“Good lord, I thought I was going to have to tranq the guy,” she said. “He drove to the hospital like a bat out of hell. He insisted on me sitting in the backseat with her on the way home. I think he expected me to throw my body over hers if we were in an accident. He’s been carrying her around like she’s an infant. He’s currently making her chicken nuggets. Don’t even bitch at me when she tells you she got to have a milkshake for dinner. That was all Cam.”

I smiled at the image of him taking care of her. “I’m glad she’s getting the best care.”

“How are you?” she asked softly.

“I’m fine,” I said.

“Ramsey,” she said again. “How are you for real?”

I took a deep breath. “I’m fine,” I repeated. “I was terrified, but they’re both fine. Dee will get to go home tomorrow as long as everything is fine.”

“Color me shocked.” She laughed. “But good, because Cam and I have claimed Lily. We’ll probably be up all night watching her sleep.”

“Thank you so much for taking care of her,” I said. “I feel guilty for not being there.”

“Trust me, if she could, Lily would be there with you,” she said. “She would not be happy if you came home and left Dee alone. Lily is absolutely in love with that woman. I don’t know what you’re doing, but I hope you know Lily is very, very fond of her. I might even be a little jealous.”

“I plan on staying the night here if you think Lily is going to be okay,” I said.
