“Why did you leave your last job?”

“The kids went to boarding school,” I answered easily.

She laughed. “You’re good.”

“I know.” I nodded. “I’m going to nail this interview. I’m going to get this job. I’m going to make him want me. As his nanny, not in bed.”

“But you wouldn’t mind if he took you to bed.” She laughed.

“What happens, happens,” I said with a shrug. “I’m leaving the door wide open. I saw a chance and I’m jumping at it.”

“Good for you.”

ChapterThree

Ramsey

Iwalked into the lab, not surprised to find Cam and Izzy cozied up together. My little sister was engaged to my best friend. It had been a problem for me at first, but not anymore. They were good together. They had the kind of relationship everyone wanted. They were two halves of a whole. He loved her like crazy and she loved him. When she came back to Boston, she had been a hot mess. Cam helped her to heal and recover from the worst relationship I could have ever imagined for her. Her ex was a piece of shit. Now, she had a good man who took care of her. He was going to make sure she was okay. I trusted him, and that was not something I did easily.

“Break it up,” I joked.

“We’re working,” Cam said with a grin. “I swear, we’re working.”

“I don’t know what kind of work you’re doing, but I need to make sure you’re going to pick up Lily,” I said to Izzy.

“I am.” Izzy nodded.

“And you’ll take her home,” I said. “Or are you taking her to your place?”

“I was going to take her to our place,” Izzy replied. “Is that okay?”

“That’s fine. She’ll be happy. She loves going to your place.”

“I think I’ll take her to get ice cream.” Izzy grinned.

“No.”

“Stop,” she scolded. “I can take my niece to get ice cream if I want.”

“Not before dinner, Izzy,” I groaned. “She doesn’t eat dinner when you give her ice cream.”

“She’s a kid going through a hard time,” Izzy replied.

“She’s not going through a hard time.” I sighed.

“You told me she lost her nanny,” she said.

“That doesn’t mean she’s going through a hard time. Yes, she was a little disappointed, but it’s not the first nanny who’s quit.”

“Whatever.” Izzy shrugged. “My niece, my choice.”

“My daughter, my demands.”

“Oh, you silly man.” Izzy laughed. “We both know that doesn’t work on me.”

“Fine, just please keep it to one scoop.” I sighed.

“Are you going to interview the nanny?”
