“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.”

“That’s not what frightens me. You’ve never asked permission before. You just get to the point.”

“This is different.”

“Why?” I watch Kaelyn and smile slightly. “Because I’m famous?”

“Yeah.” Ollie pauses. “Did the reality show really get that personal?”

I glance at him. “That’s the question?”

“Did it?”

I nod. Shrug what can I do?

“And the world watched all of it?”

“The world loved it.”

“Hm.”

I smile sadly. “Hm.”

“Is it weird?” He sips his coffee. “Everyone talking about your personal life like they were there?” Green eyes bore through my skull. “I’ve been training with you since you were fifteen and I learned more about you today than I did in a decade.”

“You don’t ask questions.”

He scowls at me. “You don’t give answers.”

“It’s not my fault you didn’t bother turning on a TV.”

“I don’t watch trashy—” His voice gets soft and he clears his throat.

“It’s fine. I’m used to it.”

“We all have good intentions.” Ollie frowns as he glances at the table. “But it feels…”

“Invasive?”

“Inappropriate.”

“That’s why the gym was safe for me. I didn’t want to be known.”

“I get it now.” He tilts his head. “Why girls keep coming to you. Why they keep flocking around you even when you brush them off.”

“Yes.”

“It explains why you were so insistent on training alone.”

I nod again.

“I think I would have gone crazy.” Ollie toasts me with his mug. “You’re stronger than me.”

No. Not stronger. I’m immune. Someone who lives with pain doesn’t consider it painful anymore. It’s just a way of life. You don’t realize you’re in agony until the pain is gone. Until you have something to compare it to.

“It got better.” My eyes fall on the stunning woman with the curly black hair and the light in her eyes. “When I met her.”

“Kaelyn.”
