“She saved me.”

“You love her.” It's not a question.

“I loved her since we were kids. I would die for her. That’s never been a question.”

“So that kiss, those pictures…?”

I turn to him. “I like her.”

“You already told me you were dating her.”

“I’m going to marry her. That’s the next step, right?”

“You say that so easy.”

“Loving Kaelyn has always been easy.”

“Hm.” Ollie rubs his chin.

My eyes gravitate to Kaelyn again. Her curls shimmer black and glossy. Her smile lights up her face and makes me think of sunshine and balloons floating through the air, buoyant and free.

That woman is the most important person in the world to me.

She’s my priority. My number one.

That was before I kissed her.

Before I tasted her.

Before… tonight.

Tonight.

We’re crossing lines. We’re pulling boundaries down.

She wants to come over.

Not to watch Disney movies.

Not to mix popcorn and M&M’s.

Not to laugh about my day at work or discuss her research.

This is us. A deeper layer.

It's new.

Different.

Exhilarating and terrifying all rolled up into one.

Because she’s Kaelyn.

Because she’s my best friend.

I can’t mess this up.

We’re moving fast. Way too fast for me to be cautious. To double-check. To be sure.
