She’s not winning.

She’s not getting what she wants.

Not this time.

I let my impulsive side take over.

I don’t question my actions.

I just ride the wave and call Kastle.

Eight

Kastle

Something vibrates on the table.

My phone.

I flip it over.

Wince.

A call from Kaelyn.

I don’t answer it.

I’m not ready.

I have to think about a way to turn her down. A way that won’t mess her up. Mess us up. A way that will protect her feelings and my crazy heart.

But right now, all my brain power is on this building project. It’s a lot less complicated. A lot less emotionally charged than the one Kaelyn wants to sack me with.

I stare at my laptop screen, but the words blur together.

Right now, Kae’s filling my head. Thoughts of her pinched eyebrows. Her frustrated frown.

Her perfect body—

Nope.

I’m concentrating.

Working on the building that’ll fatten our family portfolio. Focusing on the business side that I was trained to run.

I reach for my coffee when the door opens.

My older brother, Heath, strides into my office. He grips a coffee cup in his tan fingers and smirks at me.

From my perch behind my desk, I raise my hand.

He offers the coffee to me. Tips his chin up in a greeting.

“Aren't you tired of that noose?” He nods to my tie.

“Aren’t you too rich to be dressing like a hobo?”

He throws a punch in my direction. “Watch it.”
