My heart thunders in my chest.

I wanted more.

More time.

More opportunities.

But that’ll have to be enough.

I get to touch and kiss and be romantic with the love of my life for one week and then we go back to being friends.

“Deal?” He offers his hand.

I take it. Shake once. “Deal.”

I graze my thumb over the back of Kaelyn’s knuckles. She’s staring at me with those sultry brown eyes that can suck me in and hold me as tight as a boa constrictor squeezing its prey. Her lips inch up.

“What?” I whisper.

I don’t know why my voice escapes so huskily.

We just agreed to pretend.

In front of the press.

In front of my mother.

“That’s what you’re thinking about?”

“It’s a very important title.”

“Call me whatever you want.”

She grins and it makes her dark eyes sparkle.

Makes her cheeks bunch.

Makes her eyelids drop to half-mast.

She’s stunning.

Far more beautiful than any woman has a right to be.

My gaze falls on her plump lips.

I ease away before I do something stupid—like kiss her.

There aren’t any people here to dupe.
