Except maybe myself.

The feelings thrumming through my chest right now…

They’re way more than friendship.

Way more.

I try to get off the couch, but Kaelyn wraps her fingers around me and yanks me back down. “Wait.”

I fall closer to her on the couch than I was before.

Her arm presses against my side.

Her curls tickle my chin.

I turn slightly and my nose brushes hers.

My heart stalls.

My voice is a lower bass when I say, “You trying to practice already?”

“Only if you’re down.” She lifts her cell phone and I see a flash.

Snap.

I chuckle. “Is that necessary?”

“We can’t just spring the news on your mom that night. She won’t believe it’s real and she’ll know that we did it just to spite her.”

“Didn’t we?”

“Subtlety is our friend.” She leans back and studies the picture.

I wince when I see the way I’m looking at Kaelyn.

I’m staring like she’s dessert.

Like I’m about to lick every inch of her skin.

She’s staring back at me like she wants it. Like she’d beg me for it.

The sunlight hits her dark skin and brushes it with a golden glow.

Black curls frizz around her head, that heavenly crown I adore.

The way her neck’s exposed makes me want to drop kisses all over it.

My pants tighten.

The pillow in the corner of the couch finds a new home in my lap.

“I think that’s a little too intense,” she mumbles.

“You think?” I frown. “You should have warned me.”

“So you could hide that expression?”

“It’s not subtle.”
