Impossible.

“The tea can’t be that bad.” Luc gestures to the mug in front of me.

“Oh, no. It’s not that.”

Ina turns around, her voice a worried tinge. “Babe, should we cancel our reservation?”

“Whatever you want, love,” Lucas says, his expression softening as he looks at her.

The man is not shy about how much he adores his girlfriend.

Well, fiancé now.

Luc popped the question here in the cafe a few months ago. I only know because I follow their Instagram and he proudly broadcasted the news to all.

I’m happy for them.

Truly.

“Don’t you dare.” I accept the cloth, quietly reminding myself not to touch Ina.

She shared her dislike for physical touch a few months ago when we were getting to know each other.

Though we weren’t close enough for her to give me the details, I didn’t need them. As a woman with my own issues, Ina’s aversion to touch probably didn’t stem from a beautiful memory.

“We don’t mind.” Ina starts to pull out a chair.

I clamp my fingers on it and push it back in. “My friend’s coming.”

“Your friend?”

“Kastle.”

“Oh.” Ina backs off and returns to Luc’s side. “Then we’ll leave.”

My jaw drops. “Really?”

“If Kastle’s coming, you’ll be smiling again in no time.”

I shake my head, but my lips inch up. “You’re terrible.”

“We know.” Ina blows me a kiss. “Cheer up, okay?”

“Go. Enjoy yourselves.”

Luc nods his goodbye.

Just as they open the door, Kastle blows through it.

He stops for a moment and notices Ina and Luc. “Hey, guys. Where’s—?”

“She's over there.” Ina juts her chin in my direction.

Luc slaps Kastle on the back.

While they leave, Kastle’s almond-shaped eyes land on me.

Lock in.
