My eyes roll back in my head.

And then it all goes black.

SHANEL

I stand in the middle of the hallway as Hawk passes out. Right in front of me. His long legs fall limp and his perfect hair flounces against his pale forehead. Sweat beads on his temple.

He looks really sick.

He looks really real.

“This can’t be happening,” I mumble.

I close my eyes, frantically willing the vision before me to leave.

Open my eyes.

Hawk’s still there.

Barclay and Fitz are holding either side of him.

Miles is screaming at him to wake up.

I struggle to breathe.

Close my eyes again.

I’m dreaming. I’m in my couch mourning my breakup. I overdosed on ice cream and drowned in my own tears.

The shouts get louder. Barclay is telling Fitz to put Hawk on his back. Miles is cursing at people, telling them to move out of the way.

I press my hands over my ears. “This isn’t real. This isn’t happening.”

Someone snatches my hand violently.

I look up and find Miles glaring at me. “The hell is wrong with you, Shanel?”

Shanel? “Wait, you know me?”

“Of course I know you.”

My heart thumps frantically, pounding out a warning rhythm. Why am I dreaming about the characters from Brighton Academy?

Miles looks at me like I’m the dirt beneath his shoes. “Are you throwing a hissy fit because I said I wouldn’t marry you?”

“M-marry me?”

“You know neither of us has a choice in this.” He gives me a deep once-over. “Obviously.”

Excuse me?

“Just because we’re engaged,” his eyes go cold, “doesn’t mean I’m rushing to be stuck with you.”

The hell?

Miles tosses my hand. “We’ll talk later.”
