“He used to starve on my day off. Refused to eat anything but my cooking.”
“Because you’re the best.” Hawk casually leans against the counter and folds long arms over his chest. He’s so relaxed and at ease while I’m over here exploding from lust and embarrassment.
So much for keeping your hands off him.
That’s why I need to move out of this damn house. Hawk’s got a hold on me and the only thing strong enough to defeat it is distance.
The doorbell rings.
Hawk returns to the stove. “That must be your guest.”
“My guest?”
“Linda,” Hawk turns to the housekeeper, “set the table on the balcony. I think they’d like that.”
“Sure.” Linda grabs the stack of pancakes and bacon and motions to the syrup. “Grab those for me would you, honey?”
I do as she asks and follow her out a sliding glass door to a balcony. The stunning garden unfurls before us, revealing brightly colored flowers in full bloom. The sun bathes the sky in orange and gold. Fluffy clouds puff past, hurrying to see the world.
The door slides open and a girlish voice shrieks, “Shanel!”
I gasp. “Catherine!”
We charge toward each other and collide in a hug.
“You’re okay!” Catherine steps back and looks me over. “When I heard that your father was pulling you out of school, I got so worried. No one knew where you were. You weren’t answering your phone—”
“I know. It’s my fault. I’m sorry.” I look her over. “Wait, where are your glasses?”
A pretty blush steals over her cheeks. “Contacts.”
My eyebrows hike. Is it the ‘make-over’ part of the movie already?
“You’re wearing makeup too?” I marvel.
“Just a little. Does it look alright?”
“You look gorgeous.” My cheeks hurt from grinning. “You always did, but it’s just highlighted now. You’re seriously hot.”
“Thank you, Shanel. You’re such a great friend.”
Such a great friend.
My mouth goes dry.
Suddenly, I feel like a sleazeball.
I’m not a great friend.
I slept with Hawk last night—Catherine’s soulmate.
Just because she doesn’t know it yet doesn’t make it right.
They belong together, and I let him get between my thighs.
And I want to do it again.
