SHANEL

Hawk doesn’t understand. How could he? I probably sound like a crazy person to him. ‘I got sucked into a movie’ sounds way more ridiculous than ‘I was playing you to get back with Miles’.

After all my hard work convincing Miles to go along with my desperate plan, Hawk didn’t believe that we were together anyway. There’s no way he’s buying this.

“There was an earthquake,” I say slowly. “The next thing I know, I woke up here in a world where Brighton Academy actually exists.”

“And what about me? Did I exist in this… movie?”

I study Hawk in surprise. He’s actually hearing me out?

His blue eyes still look skeptical and those pink lips are pressed into a firm line, but he’s not shutting me down.

“You were the main lead. The hottest guy on campus and the leader of B4.” I hesitate. “And you were with Catherine.”

“Bull.”

“In the movie, you bumped into each other and it was an instant connection. You pursued her and she fell in love with you—”

“You’re saying that happened in this…” His hand flips through the air, “movie, but I don’t remember any of it.”

“I watched it happen over and over.” My eyelashes flutter. “I celebrated every relationship milestone. I felt content when the screen faded on your happily ever after.”

His jaw clenches. “You realize how crazy this sounds?”

“It’s the truth.” I rub my forehead in frustration. “When I got trapped here, I was scared and confused. I thought that I was the one coming between you and Catherine. I thought if I got you two together again, the movie would let me out, but things got messed up.”

“Things are exactly the way they were meant to be.”

“What about your headaches?”

His nose scrunches. “What about them?”

“They’re a consequence of me being in this movie.”

“Don’t be ridiculous.”

“It’s true!” I hear the deranged shriek in my own voice, but I’m powerless to stop it. “The movie is punishing me for changing the script.”

Hawk grips my arms. “Listen to me. I’m real. My feelings for you are real. And there’s nothing that can change that. I don’t know where you got this movie idea from but—”

“Whether you believe me or not doesn’t matter.” I step away. “It won’t change the fact that I’m going back home.”

His eyes harden. “Shanel—”

“You saw the doorway?”

He goes quiet.

“It’s through there.”

“That doorway leads to nowhere.”

“No it doesn’t.”

I recall what happened earlier today.

The handsome man with sharp green eyes steps out of the doorway and stares at me.
