I kiss Shanel desperately. The more I taste her lips, the more I lose myself to the thrill raging through my veins.

She opens herself fully to me. Hungrily, she digs her fingers into the front of my shirt, the pads of her thumbs falling against a top button and starting to loosen it.

I chuckle deep in my throat.

She pulls back. Looks at me. “What?”

“Nothing.” My fingers move sensually over her. With a hard tug, I hook my hand into the belt loop of her jeans and pull her closer. “I love you.”

“I love you.”

“Marry me.” My heart thunders as the certainty of what I want crescendos in my head. “Marry me and be mine forever.”

“Wait… what?”

I stroke her face with hot patience. “Marry me, Speedy.”

“Hawk…”

“I don’t want anyone to question what you mean to me. Who you are to me. I want you in every way possible.” I spread my hands on her stomach. “I want you to have our babies and raise them and stay with me.”

Her lips quirk. “You’re just trying to find more ways to tie me here.”

“Maybe.”

“What a marriage proposal.”

“I’ll always be honest with you.”

She studies me, her beautiful brown eyes sparkling.

Damn.

I adore this woman.

My hands find their way to her hips.

I jerk her closer, needing her body as much as I need air.

Our foreheads press together.

I’m so grateful that I got here in time to stop her from leaving.

What would I have done if she’d gone?

“Do you remember coming out here as a child?” Shanel asks.

I blink, taken aback by the conversation shift.

Her eyes are full of hope as she presses, “Do you remember using that portal?”

A hazy memory floats to the surface.

Uncle Henry and me.

A metal doorway.

“It’s faint, but I can’t remember.” At her disappointed expression, I lean back. “Doc said my memories will return slowly. Give it time.”
