“It’s okay. I remember. I met you before,” Shanel says. “The day my life went to crap, there was a boy. I saved his life. And my destiny was tied to his from that moment on.”
My eyebrows hike. Although I can’t remember, somewhere deep inside me resonates with her words.
There was a little girl I swore I’d marry.
She’s faint in my mind, but my heart remembers.
“I think that’s why I came to this place.” Shanel’s voice trembles. “I think that’s why we met again. I think reality changed so you could keep your promise.”
“I always keep my promises,” I murmur.
Shanel strokes the back of my neck. “Yes.”
My eyes widen. “Yes?”
“Yes to marriage. Yes to babies. Yes to everything.” She caresses my cheek. “I love you, Hawk. I want to stay with you forever.”
I pick her up and spin her around.
Her laughter bounces around the clearing.
Slowly, I let her down.
Her body slides against my chest, down my torso, down the hard length of me. I grip her thighs and wrap her legs around my waist.
She giggles. “What are you doing?”
“Taking you to the guest house.
“For what?” Shanel asks, batting her eyelashes.
I stalk ahead, wondering if I should just take her in the grass.
Her mouth finds my neck, the base of my throat and my lips. “I couldn’t leave you.”
“Uh-huh.”
“I was already changing my mind before you burst on the scene.” Her hot lips suck on my earlobe. “I couldn’t imagine my life without you in it.”
I’m already trembling. On the edge of bursting.
This woman is explosive. Dangerous. Mine.
“Couldn’t imagine not touching you again…” she whispers in a sultry voice, her hand dipping under my shirt and rasping against my abs. She rocks her hips against me. “Not running my hands through your hair or all over your body…”
“Speedy,” I growl a warning.
“I’ll never leave you, Hawk.”
I meet her eyes.
See the determination in them.
The promise.
“Never.”
I barely make it to the guesthouse. As soon as I bust the door down, I set her on her feet. She yanks at the hem of my T-shirt while I rip her blouse off her shoulders and snap her jeans down to her ankles.
