Annoyance stirs my temper. “Move.”

“Rest. You need rest.”

My eyes sharpen.

I can see the shift in her immediately.

The uncertainty.

The regret.

She knows she messed up.

“H-Hawk.”

I take a step forward.

Her throat bobs as she swallows in fear. “I’m just trying to do what’s best for you. You’re a patient.”

“No.” Moving in close to her, I lower my voice. “That’s not who I am.”

Her eyelashes flutter crazily.

I tip her chin up. In a soft voice laced with steel, I demand. “Do you know who I am?”

Her breath thickens.

I sweep my thumb up to her ear and then back down to her chin. Grasping her firmly, I arch an eyebrow. “Tell me.”

“Y-you’re a student at—”

“Wrong.”

Her cheeks bloom to full red. Desire bursts to life in her eyes. So, she really does have a thing for younger men. Or maybe she just has a thing for power.

“I’m the king.” I caress her soft cheek. Drop my thumb to her bottom lip. Tug. Watch it bounce back like a yo-yo. “Now, if you don’t want to get trampled,” I whisper. “Get. Out. Of. The. Way.”

Her pink lips smash together.

I drop my hand, waiting.

But I don’t have to wait long.

I never do.

The nurse shuffles back.

I stride out of the room and head down the empty hallway. My sneakers thump against the floor.

I shrug my jacket higher and scowl. Being cooped up in the school infirmary is not my idea of a good time. I’ve got crap to do today.

The familiar rumble of a motorcycle grabs my attention.

I rush outside and glance at the base of the stairs where I usually keep my bike.

Sunlight glints against the black paint and orange accents.

It’s killer.
