Sneak Peek! Caught In You Chapter One

Conroy

Gripping the mewling man in my bloody fists, I lift him off the floor and peer into his scared brown eyes.

He’s trembling like a rat. An ugly, beady-eyed rat. His naked chest pumps up and down with every pained breath.

Barely restraining my disgust, I hiss, “Why should I keep you alive?”

His mouth opens and closes.

Terror has stolen his tongue.

Or maybe I did.

It’s tit for tat.

He stole my money first.

I laugh in his face. “Won’t you answer me? Give me a reason?”

Only a gargled sounds burst free.

I toss him to the ground and glance around the room. Blood stains the nice tiles and splatter over the cream brown walls. Gloria will have a field day trying to get that out. I can already hear her heavily accented voice scolding me, “Conroy, no torturing your victims upstairs. That’s what the basement is for.”

She’s right. The basement is perfectly outfitted for these… exploits, but I’ve grown tired of the predictability.

I catch the victim.

They cry and beg.

I kill them.

And it ends.

I’ve tried to liven things up by choosing those I feel will be strong enough to defy me. When that failed, I moved upstairs, using what I had in my living quarters and flexing my creative arm in the methods of torture. But that was still not enough to satisfy me.

Perhaps I’ve lost my touch. The power that I wield means I don’t have to dirty my hands with these menial chores, and it’s been a choice to hand over these… untidy dealings to my minions.

Of course, I’ve been starting back lately. Just to curb the restless. I figured a return to my roots would satiate the beast within me.

It hasn’t.

Only she can.

I straighten. “Enough of this.”

“Ugh, ugh.” The man in ropes wiggles on the ground like a snake.

Locking my arms around his neck, I end his pathetic life.

He goes silent.

I straighten and call for Roderick.

The butler comes running.

“Is it ready?” I ask, reaching for my towels and wiping off the blood that has dried on my arms.
