“You also tried to kill me earlier.” He undoes the button of his shirt. “In the hallway.”

“What?”

Another button. “You should take responsibility.”

“I opened the door. Is that a crime?” My gaze darts away. A second later, it bounces right back, pulled by a magnetic force that I don’t exactly want to identify. My voice wavers. “Are you going to beat me up?”

“Beat you?”

“Or…?”

“Or what?” He glances at me, his lips quirking with amusement.

“All I did was open a door and, for some reason, you decided to faint.” I lick my lips, reaching for the courage I know I should have. “Maybe you shouldn’t be walking around with a big cut on your head.” I plant my legs firmly on the floor, glad to feel just a tad more in control of this crazy dream. “And who leaves their keys in their motorcycle? That’s just plain irresponsible.”

“You’re lecturing me?” Hawk slips his shirt off.

My eyes fall on his broad shoulders. Ropes of muscles taper down to defined abs. His boxers fall low on his waist, revealing a deep, tantalizing V.

I try to swallow but realize that I can’t.

Not with the lump in my throat.

Hawk reaches into a closet and pulls out a fresh shirt. “Were you always this feisty?”

“Being kidnapped brings out the worst in me.”

He chuckles. “And here I thought I was showing you mercy because you’re Miles’s fiancé.”

“Revisit your definition of mercy.”

He gives me a once-over.

I squirm, feeling naked beneath his intimate appraisal.

Awareness trembles between us, a spark of attraction I don’t think either one of us was prepared for.

Silence thickens in the room.

I glance away from Hawk and study the place. It looks exactly as it did in the movie—overstuffed black chairs, expensive paintings, a wet bar.

I really need to stop watching this movie. The fact that my brain remembers the exact set-up of the B4 chill spot is alarming.

“There’s something different about you,” Hawk says.

I lift my chin. “Something like what?”

“You ask a lot of questions.”

“And I didn’t before?”

“You were pathetic before.”

“Well, don’t mince your words.”

He inhales deeply. “Why did you get on my motorcycle?”

I meet his openly curious stare. “I…”
