HAWK

Miles stalks over to the counter, his eyes narrowed. “You kidnapped my fiancé?”

“I didn’t know you cared.” I grab the bourbon.

The amber liquid sloshes into my glass. I wait until it’s about halfway and then set the decanter back where it belongs.

Miles grits his teeth and tightens his fingers into fists.

I keep drinking, completely unbothered.

I can take him.

And he knows it.

Barclay lets out a nervous chuckle. “What’s with the atmosphere, huh? We’re all friends, here.”

I set my glass down.

Turn away from them.

Suck in a deep breath.

They’re probably thinking that I’m acting out of character.

Hell, I am.

I never noticed Miles’s fiancé before. Sure, I knew of her. I’ve seen her following him around, always with that dazed, hopelessly-in-love look in her eyes. Once, I helped Miles avoid her by lying about where he was.

She’s obsessed with him. A doormat. A joke.

But that girl with the flaming brown eyes…

She’s got the same face.

The same body.

But that Shanel is no joke.

“Are you trying to make a move on Shanel?” Miles asks me outright.

“Come on, Miles.” Fitz groans.

“Why else would he bring her up here? ‘No girls in the playroom’. That’s rule number one. Even Barclay abides by that.”

“True.” Barclay shrugs.

Miles glares at me. “Why did you bring her up here?”

I reach for my bourbon again.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Miles shrieks.

Fitz throws up a hand. “Because it’s ridiculous!”

“I’m not talking to you, Fitz!”
