My heartbeat picks up, but I try to play it cool. “Need something, ladies?”

Someone smacks me into the door.

My head slams against it with a thud. Stars dance around my eyes.

Why do I keep feeling pain in this dream?

As I massage the back of my head, the girl who shoved me steps forward. She’s got a blunt bob and brown eyes. Like everyone in this rag-tag group of wanna-be goths, she’s wearing a black shirt beneath the school’s navy vest.

I recognize her instantly.

“Lassandra?”

Her smile is tinged with hate.

She’s a lot more intimidating in dream-format than through a TV screen, I’ll give her that.

“Girls aren’t allowed in B4’s room,” Lassandra snarls.

“I wasn’t…”

“Someone saw you being escorted up this morning. We know you were alone with Hawk.”

Escorted up.

Alone with Hawk.

They make it sound so nice and cozy.

I was kidnapped.

“We want to know what you talked about,” Lassandra adds.

“What does it matter to you?”

“Because it’s Hawk.” She steps closer. “And anything to do with Hawk is my business.”

“You’re delusional.”

She laughs darkly. “And you have a death wish.”

“You’re cornering me because of some guy who doesn’t know you exist?”

Her eyes darken. “Are you bragging because you have ties to B4?”

“That’s not what I—”

“You already have Miles. Isn’t that enough?”

“You can have Miles if you want.” I shrug.

“So you’re after Hawk now then?”

“Whoa. No way. That’s not what I said.”

“Why else would you ride his motorcycle?”

“How do you know about that?”
