The hallway freezes. Kids hang on my every word. On my every breath.

It never used to matter.

None of it did.

But for the first time in my life I feel…

What is this?

Excited.

I’m looking forward to this.

“Today, Shanel broke her engagement to Miles.”

“What are you doing?” Shanel shrieks. Tugging on my arm, she hisses, “I didn’t give you permission to—”

“She’s no longer engaged.” I meet her eyes and declare to the world, to the room, to Shanel, “So from this moment on, she’s mine.”

SHANEL

It’s safe to say that Mission: Reset Movie is a failure.

A heaping stink pile of dung.

A train so far off the tracks it’s skating on ice.

While Myles and Hawk were fighting over me like two toddlers deciding who gets to play with the toy, Catherine ran off with Fitz to help clean his shirt and probably beg for forgiveness.

Which…

I mean, that’s horrible. It wasn’t her fault.

Shoving her in the middle of the hallway was my mistake.

It made a big mess—and I’m not just talking about the coffee on the floor. I embarrassed my friend and didn’t even accomplish my goal.

Catherine didn’t run into Hawk.

She’s gone.

And Hawk is here—with his fine self.

He’s here confessing his love to me.

I think.

What is he doing?

‘From this moment on, she’s mine.’

The more I think about it, the more annoyed I get.

That was not a confession. It was Hawk claiming his toy.

I really can’t deal with this man.
