He looks back at me with an unbothered expression.

Damn, he’s annoying.

I grit my teeth and sprint in the direction I saw Fitz and Catherine disappearing into.

The crowd parts for me just as they do for B4.

People stare.

Point.

Whisper.

I lower my head and hurry away. Stupid Hawk. I wanted to get through this movie on a low profile.

Guess my cover’s blown.

With a sigh, I step into a classroom that’s in session.

No Catherine.

The teacher peers at me. “Aren’t you supposed to be in History, Shanel?”

No, I’m supposed to be in the real world. “Sorry. I’ll head there now.”

I close the door softly behind me.

Where are you, Catherine?

I head to the girls’ bathroom next. As soon as I step inside, my cheek starts to throb, recalling the pain that flashed through me when Lassandra smacked me. I shudder to think of what the villain will do when she catches wind of Hawk’s hallway declaration.

In the movie, she kidnapped Catherine multiple times, beat her up and locked her in dark rooms. As Hawk’s biggest fan, she dedicated her life to making Catherine suffer.

Now, that suffering is going to fall on me.

Damn. I’m busy enough trying to get Hawk and Catherine to look at each other. I really can’t deal with Lassandra’s fury on top of it all.

I hear a soft sob echo in the quiet bathroom.

My fingers tighten on the doorknob.

I ease it open. “Catherine?”

The air goes still, but I can still hear someone sniffing.

“Catherine?” I check beneath each of the stalls until I find one that’s occupied.

There.

Those are Catherine’s sensible black pumps.

I sigh in relief. “Catherine, it’s me.”

“Go away. I don’t want to talk to you.”

“Catherine.” I drum my fist against the door. “Please. I can explain.”

“You pushed me into Fitz.”
