“She deserves to be punished.”

I meet his blue eyes. “If you leave Lassandra alone…” I blow out a breath. “I’ll go on that boat ride with you.”

Hawk’s languid smile is tinged with amusement. “You were going anyway.”

I grit my teeth.

“But,” he runs his thumb down my cheek, “if that’s what you want, it’s done.”

“Good.”

He drops his arm around my shoulder. “Now, let me walk you to class.”

HAWK

Green waves lap at the legs of the dock. A steady breeze whips my hair over my forehead, dancing over the scar on my temple.

The sun is still high in the sky. It’ll be a couple hours before it sinks into the horizon to be replaced by the moon.

I suck in a breath of the tangy ocean air and slip a hand into the pocket of my cargo shorts.

The Pied Piper bobs in the water. It’s a sleek beauty with all the amenities imaginable.

Many hours were logged behind the wheel trying to find peace in the ocean waves. I’m a capable captain, but today, I brought someone else to take over the wheel. My peace is found.

The wind picks up.

Flaps my shirt.

Tugs at my hair.

I raise my arms and stretch, jumping in place to get rid of the jitters coursing through my stomach and chest.

Footsteps over the dock grab my attention.

Shanel is here.

But she’s not alone.

I scowl when I see Catherine prancing behind her, an excited grin on her pale face.

“What the hell is this?” I growl.

“This is Catherine.”

“Hi, Hawk.” Catherine wiggles her fingers.

“You remember her, right?”

“She spilled coffee on Fitz yesterday. Ruined his favorite sweater. I remember.”

Catherine cringes.

Shanel plants her hands on her hips. “Don’t be mean.”

“I’m being honest.”
