A glorious sunset spreads before us, a perfect backdrop to the delicious food.

With each passing moment, Shanel relaxes in my embrace. She chats excitedly with Catherine as she enjoys her meal.

At one point, she seems to forget that she’s in my lap and rests completely against me, her head bumping slightly with mine.

Unable to resist, I press a kiss to her temple.

She comes to herself and her body hardens beneath my hand.

I drag her back to rest as she had been and caress her upper thigh.

She doesn’t fight it.

Slowly, her body melts against me.

Contentment fills my soul.

“This doesn’t mean anything,” Shanel whispers in my ear, her fingers lightly scraping my stubble. “I’m just using you as a chair. I’m not yours. And I’m not sticking around. You should know that.”

I simply smirk. If you think I’ll let you go after this, Speedy, then you aren’t as smart as you appear to be.

Catherine says something that draws her attention away.

I put my chin in the crook of Shanel’s shoulder, listening to her sweet voice and enjoying the vibration of her body against me.

The server approaches the table to clear the empty dishes.

I order bourbon.

Shanel and Catherine opt for dessert.

“I have an idea,” Shanel says.

My eyes open. She’s staring at me, her face close to mine. Her lips pucker a breath away.

My hand falls on her stomach, fingers splaying over the curve of her hip.

Shanel smirks. “It’s a favor, really.”

“Anything.”

“Let’s play Truth or Dare.”

“Why?”

“So we can get to know each other.”

I want this too, but things are never that easy with her.

Leaning back, I mull it over. Finally, I nod. “We can play…”

She grins.

“But not Truth or Dare.”

“What then?”

“Truth or Shot.” I swirl my liquor in my glass and eye her. “I dare you.”
