“I don’t know what you mean,” I tease.

“Sure thing, Reign.” He winks. “Your secrets are always safe with me. Just be careful, okay? Don’t get hurt again. You’re a good woman. You deserve better.”

“Thank you.” I kiss his cheek. “And whoever this woman is you’re pining after, man up and tell her. You’re a good man, Trav, and you deserve to be happy.”

“It’s complicated,” he mutters.

“Isn’t it always? That’s when it’s the most fun,” I say and stand, slipping on my boots once more. I wrap my jacket around me and wish him a final goodbye before I head down to face my guards and the music.

Excitement and nerves flow through me at what they might do.

What I hope they will do . . .

EIGHTEEN

I’m pacing, as is Astro. I’m pissed and jealous as hell. We all know what’s happening up there and we hate it, but Astro, fuck, he looks both devastated and furious. We’ve had to stop him from storming up there more than once, but we’re so focused on him and our own anger that we didn’t even notice Dal slip away.

“Shit,” Raff hisses. “That’s bad news, really bad fucking news.”

Raff has been just as bad despite his words. He’s been ranting, checking the guy out, looking for anything to use on him, and he told us a hundred reasons in the last hour why we should check on them.

It all stems from jealousy.

She isn’t ours, but we all wish she were.

She can fuck whoever she wants, but it doesn’t mean we don’t hate it and wish it were us up there with her, tasting her sweetness and hearing her screams.

Disappointment fills me because I thought we had something, but maybe I was wrong. Maybe this is simply who Reign is. She never promised us anything, and she’s more than welcome to do this, but it hurts.

“Raff?” I question. If Dal is gone, then there is only one place he’ll be. He wouldn’t abandon his post, and he wouldn’t leave us without a word, so that means he went after her. Raff looks very worried, though, his face clouded, like he knows something he didn’t tell us.

“Cil, stay here in case someone comes down. Astro, you’re with me.” He stomps toward the stairs with Astro in tow. I shoot him a raised eyebrow, asking him if he knows what’s going on, and the only response I get is a shrug, so I guess not.

I watch them disappear and glance around. I hate waiting. I want to be there with them. I want to find out what’s happening.

More than that, I want to confront her.

I’m angry because whatever this is between us is fun and electric, and I’ve never felt anything like this before, yet she can easily toss us aside like we’re nothing and fuck someone else?

I thought I knew her, but maybe I was wrong.

The elevator dings as it opens, and I whirl to see Reign. All of my good intentions, my professionalism, and sense of duty goes out of the window with one look at her.

The others aren’t here to stop me, and her eyes widen as I march toward her. She tries to back away before tilting her chin up and holding her position. That’s my girl. Grabbing her arm, I haul her from the elevator, barely able to even look at her without exploding with jealousy.

Her hair is mussed, her lips are swollen and bruised, and her shirt is askew.

She looks like she’s just been fucked, and I hate it.

We are the only ones she should be looking at like that. It’s stupid, impulsive, and unprofessional, but I don’t care anymore. She came here tonight to either prove something to us or herself, and I plan to find out what.

I don’t care that she’s a rock star and earns more in a minute than I could in a lifetime. To us, she is just Reign, and right now, she’s pushed me too fucking far.

“Cillian,” she starts, but I ignore her and the looks thrown our way as I drag her down a corridor and into the first room. It’s a fancy-ass powder room, and I quickly lock the door behind me. I release her arm like she burnt me and pace to the stalls, quickly checking that they are empty and alone, but even then, I don’t turn back to her.

My control is hanging on by a thread. She might think I’m the nice one, that I’m funny and relaxed, but she’s about to find out that I’m anything but when it comes to her.

“Cillian,” she demands, her voice haughty.
