“I ordered a pleasant visit and safe passage, but you should know that some of my clan mates are demanding blood for blood over the omega killings.”

Lenox sniffs. “In my experience, those kinds of feelings don’t go away.”

Lenox eliminated his second-in-command, who was one of his best friends and an alpha female of the pack. He knows I’ll have challenges.

“I’m trying to avoid doing what you did to your second.”

“Good luck.” Lenox pushes off the carriage. “I trust Marybell is well.”

“She is fine.”

“Who’s breeding her?”

“None of your business.”

Lenox smirks. “She’ll tell my mate, and my mate will tell me.”

“What, are you a gossip girl now?”

Lenox opens the door and says, “The trunks are for Marybell. Hope she has enough space in her wardrobe.”

“I don’t have a wardrobe.”

He grins. “She’s with you?”

A female pops her head out of the carriage and looks up at me with blue eyes so clear and lovely that it makes me feel like I’m resting on a beach sipping cool lemonades while sirens sing in my ears.

“No wardrobe?” she asks, her voice like a caress over my knob.

Immediately, I search for the pointy ears of a fairy, but a tall, thick white fur hat covers her ears. The female extends her elegant, gloved hand, showing me a massive ring with akastawayseashell in the middle. Those are precious jewels, sold exclusively inside the Golden Palace of the Summer Fae Court. The only reason I know that is because my father took me on a trip over the seas once. We visited the Summer Fae Court.

He for pleasure.

Me for sightseeing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a female fairy, and this is a fairy. She’s too pretty not to be one. The king’s cousin, perhaps?

It’s not until Lenox offers her his hand and the fairy steps out of the carriage safely that I realize she expected me to help her down.

She smiles up at me, blue eyes twinkling with magic. “Hey there, handsome,” she says through the haze that is my mind.

I can’t take my eyes off her. She’s holding me steady, and it’s starting to piss me off. Growling, I blink, but I can’t look away. It’s a damn trap. This fae is using her magic on me. Damn her. Damn Lenox.

“Milady?” a small voice says, and like a mighty hammer, it shatters the fae magic and clears my mind at the same time that Marybell rushes out of the house. Barefoot. No coat. Just her flimsy, ugly dress. Without thinking, I snatch her up and walk her back inside.

Marybell fights me.

The fairy steps aside just as the Kilseleian princess bursts out of the carriage, shouting at me. I slam the door. She bangs on it, demanding I surrender Marybell. My wolves howl, and I know I’d better get back out there before the princess breaks a nail. I open the door of my cabin and bark, “Welcome!”

The princess doesn’t blink an eye at my mood or tone. She stomps inside and jabs her finger at my bare chest. “My Marybell is not a sack of potatoes. You put her down this moment.”

“She ran outside with no shoes or a coat. The temperatures catch a weak body quickly. She can freeze.”

The princess blinks, and the fairy behind her smiles. “And here I thought all lycans wanted their mates walking around barefoot.” She pushes past me as if walking into her own house. This one is used to doing whatever she pleases.

With Marybell still hanging over my shoulder, I step away from the door. “All lycans want their mates’ obedience. Bare feet or not. Isn’t that right, Lenox?”

While entering the cabin, he snaps his teeth at me.
