Pick me up in an hour.

??

I’m waiting outside when his car pulls up to the curb. My large sunnies shade my eyes from the glare of the day, and I’m wearing a light sundress. Opening the car door, I see Colt sitting behind the driver’s wheel with two bottles of Gatorade. That’s exactly what my head needs while I wait for the painkillers to kick in. I slide into the front seat and take the bottle from him.

“God, I love you,” I murmur, twisting the lid open.

“Settle down, one kiss at a party and you want to marry me.”

“Shut up,” I say. “I’m too hungover for jokes.”

Colt laughs and pulls away from the curb.

“What were you going to say when I asked you out today?” I ask as we drive along the highway.

“Huh?”

“You kept typing, then deleting your text. Then all you said was okay.”

“I was trying to say no.” He cocks his eyebrow at me. “I don’t usually cut classes.”

“Goody-two shoes,” I tease. “What changed your mind, then?”

“The thought of you in a bikini.”

“Ah, what a shame I only bought my wetsuit with me.”

“If that’s true, I’m turning the car around and going to class.”

“Dirty perve,” I tsk, and he winks at me.

“Luckily I don’t have to turn around though, because I already know you’re wearing a red bikini under that dress.”

“How do you know that?”

“I’m a guy. It’s in my DNA to know if there’s a bikini anywhere within a five-mile radius.”

“Definitely a dirty perve.” I mutter, trying not to smile. He noticed what I’m wearing.

My painkillers and the Gatorade have worked their magic on my pounding head by the time we pull into a parking bay at the edge of the beach. Grabbing our bags and towels, we wander down to the sand. Being a Monday, there’s no one else here.

“I think we have the whole beach to ourselves.” Colt remarks, looking around.

“Just how I like it.” I head to a spot that is shielded by trees but is still sunny enough for sunbathing. We set up our towels, strip down to our cossies, and sit down.

“I was right,” Colt says, waving his hand at my red string bikini as I lay on my back and shield my eyes from the sun.

“Ten points for you.” I murmur.

“Aren’t you going to put sunscreen on?” He asks.

“I put it on before I left home.”

“Damn.”

“Why? You want me to burn?”

“No. I wanted to rub the cream in for you.” Colt says with a smile in his voice.
