I made some calls and checked in with the event planner, Juliana Wright. Everything was running smoothly, not that I’d expected otherwise. She was meticulous.

I went to Jasper’s hotel room to shower and change into my tux, then grabbed one final surprise before heading back up to the penthouse.

“She’s all yours,” Jay said as I exited the elevator to the top floor. His team had taken the rejected garments down the staff elevator, and I couldn’t wait to see Kendall.

“Thank you, Jay.”

He stepped closer, adjusting my tie. “This Tom Ford looks divine on you.”

“You always make me look good.” I appreciated his eye for design.

“Thank you,” he said, sincerity ringing in his voice. “I’m always happy to style you—and, now, Kendall. Though, I guess I’ve already been styling her, considering all the clothes we filled your closet with.”

I nodded. “Yes, and I’d appreciate your continued discretion.”

He mimed zipping his lips. “You got it, boss. It was nice to finally meet her in person. She’s a rarity in Hollywood. Gorgeous and authentic.” He shook his head, but he wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t already know. “She is going to slay.”

“I don’t doubt it.” I took a step forward, eager to see her.

He placed a hand to my chest, eyeing me up and down. “Whoa there, cowboy.”

I stilled. “What?”

“Donotfuck up my masterpiece,” he said with a stern expression as I continued past him. “I mean it, Crawford,” he called.

I chuckled but continued down the hall, swiping the keycard to the suite. The lock disengaged, and I swung the door open. And there she stood, her hair in waves down her back.

She peered out at the city, her dress glittering like the sunset on the beach. A promise of forever.Myforever.

“My god.” I drank in the sight of her, scarcely able to form words. Jay hadn’t been exaggerating when he’d referred to Kendall as a masterpiece.

She slowly turned to face me. Her eyes scanned me from head to toe, an appreciative smile spreading over her face. “Wow.”

“I changed my mind,” I said, stepping closer. Careful to keep my next surprise hidden behind my back. “We’re not going.”

She laughed, smoothing her hands down my lapels. “Mm. Tempting. But it gives us something to look forward to for later.”

“I like the sound of that.” As beautiful as she looked, I couldn’t wait to muss her up. To smear her lipstick and tousle her hair. “Now for the final touch.”

She furrowed her brow, and I removed the velvet box from behind my back and held it between us. Her eyes went comically wide when I opened the lid to reveal the contents.

“Oh. My. God.” Her attention was glued to the diamond necklace and matching earrings. “Please tell me these are costume pieces.”

I shook my head and gestured for her to turn. She faced the skyline, our reflection visible in the window. I trailed the necklace up her chest, enjoying the way she shivered in response.

I secured the clasp and pressed my lips to her shoulder. “There. Perfect.”

She lifted her hand to the necklace, grazing the pendant with her fingers. The pattern matched the earrings exactly, with a round cut diamond at the top, followed by a cluster of four stones that created the illusion of an X, leading to a large, pear-shaped stone at the bottom. It was more subtle than I would’ve preferred, but it was more suited to her tastes. And they were the best quality and clarity money could buy.

“These are on loan, right?”

I waited until she met my gaze in the reflection. “They’re all yours.”

Just like my heart.

But I wasn’t going to tell her that. Not yet anyway. She wasn’t ready to hear it. But one day, I’d tell her my heart belonged to her, just like the diamonds adorning her skin.
