Page 27 of His Darkest Desires

Jared had backed off and not even shown his face since our talk, so I knew it couldn’t be anything about him. He did keep mentioning a case he'd been working on but said that it was nothing for me to worry about, but I did. Something was eating at him and I was determined to find out just what it was. Getting out of the shower, I got dressed and ready to go on our date night back at the club. It would be the first time we'd both been back since that night we found each other there. I was a little nervous and wondering just what it was that we’d be doing, or how to act. But Archer gave me a rundown of all the expectations of a sub and the do's and don'ts of the club. Who'd be allowed to speak to me, who wasn't, and when to lower my eyes. I only hoped that I'd be able to remember it all. Putting my final touch of red lipstick on, I came out to find Archer in his office. "Well, how do I look?"

When he looked up from his computer at me, I could tell that he’d been more than pleased with the outfit I'd chosen for tonight. It was a black strapless mini vinyl dress with the sides cut out and had belt buckle type straps crisscrossing over the area, so as not to be too revealing. I paired it with black silk stockings and my four-inch black boots, and of course per his orders, left off the panties. Getting up from the chair, he crossed the room to me. "Holy shit, you look so hot in that dress, angel. I'm not sure I want to take you to the club tonight after all. Maybe I should just take you back to bed and keep you all to myself instead," he circled his arms around me, pulling me in tight. His touch would always be my kryptonite, the feel of his skin on mine always made me feel so safe and loved. The wordlovedcame to my mind from his actions but had yet to come from either of our lips. I knew that I felt love for him, and I could feel the love from him, but saying the actual words was something I didn't think either one of us had been ready for yet. Breaking me out of my thoughts, he said, "Let's get going before I change my mind and strap you to the bed."

Arriving at the club, we entered inside the door and I instantly felt that familiar curiosity rise-up inside me, the same one I had that first night. But I knew that at some point my curiosity was going to have to be contained until I figured out what exactly it was I'd be allowed to ask about.

Archer led me further inside after he'd greeted his friend, Dominic, at the door. "Now do you remember what I told you about when to lower your eyes and the rules of you talking to someone or them talking to you?"

I nodded my head, not sure where I should be looking, keeping my eyes lowered. "Yes, I'm not allowed to speak to any Dom's or look them in the eyes unless you give me permission to, and they are not allowed to speak to me without asking you first. And subs I can talk to as long as you and the Dom they are with have no reasons not to allow us to."

Grabbing my chin, he brought my eyes up to meet his. "Good. Now if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me, okay? I want you to be comfortable with me here, knowing I will keep you safe."

"Okay."

As he moved us through the crowd to the bar, I caught a few Dom's without a sub at their side looking me over, but as soon as I their eyes met mine, I lowered them to the ground so as not to give them the impression I was available or to be disrespectful. "Would you like water or a soda to drink?"

I looked up at Archer confused. "They don't have alcohol here?"

"No, this is a dry bar. What we do here needs to be done with a clear head on both party’s parts, otherwise someone could really get injured."

Knowing that what he said made sense, I answered. "Water is fine." After he got our drinks, he chatted with a few of the other Dom's at the bar while I listened to the song that blared over the sound system byIn This MomentcalledBeast Within.I couldn't think of a more fitting song for this environment we were in.

Suddenly, a large frame came into view out of the corner of my eye. "Archer, how's it going, man?”

Recognizing that voice, I could tell the frame belonged to Logan. "Logan, good to see you again." Archer replied.

"Well, well, I can see you brought my guest from the other night back. I take it you must have peaked her interests?"

Hearing the smile in his tone, Archer answered. "Yeah, you could say that."

Logan paused for a moment. "Mind if I say hello?" Standing here, not able to act like a normal person would in a social situation like this had it all feeling so surreal, like I was in a dream and people were just talking about me as though I didn't really exist. Then it crossed my mind; was this how it would always be with Archer in these kinds of settings? Feeling like I don't exist until he gave me permission to? He tells me I mean more to him than just a sub, but right now I was having a hard time trusting what he had said to me as truth.

Feeling Archer's finger under my chin, pulling it up, I was torn away from all my thoughts and doubts. “You remember Logan?”

Looking over at him, I answered. "Yes, I remember, good to see you again."

He looked me over with a fire burning in his eyes. "It'sverygood to see you again Sloane, back here in our club." He then looked over at Archer. "Is she yours, or are you just training her?"

Watching Archer, I could see the possessive expression on his face as he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me in close. "She ismine. Here and otherwise as well. So she is completely off limits to you and the others." As I watched the two of them face off over me like this, I couldn't even begin to describe the feelings I was having, being talked about as though I were an object of possession and not an actual human being. I tried like hell to hold my tongue from expressing my thoughts until we left tonight, but the longer this kind of talk between the two of them went on, the harder I had to press my lips together to keep myself from saying exactly what was on my mind.

Raising his hands in the air in a surrendering motion Logan replied. "I got you, no worries. I guess I should have made my move last weekend when I had her in my possession before you came along. My loss."

Opening my mouth to say something, I was cut off by a deep voice that entered the conversation. "Logan. Archer. How are we doing over here tonight, boys?"

Feeling Archer's grip tighten on me, I wasn’t sure if I should still keep my eyes up, down, or what, so I just kept them halfway up. "Connor, how have you been?" I heard Archer say in a clipped manner, and I knew by the tone in his voice, this was someone he wasn’t fond of.

"Good, and I see you're doing well with this new addition to your stable of subs." That did it! I wasn’t able to hold my composure any longer and my head snapped up to look at this man talking about women like we were something one collects. "Oh, and I see you haven't quite got her trained yet either."

The anger in my eyes pressed to the forefront of my gaze and I no longer hid my distaste for this jerk. "Excuse me? I'm standing right here in front of you, asshole. What gives you the right to talk about me or any other woman like that?"

Drawing looks from Dom's and the sub's all around us, it took a few moments for the realization to settle in on how much I'd just embarrassed Archer in front of the other club members. Looking over at him, it was clear that he was angry at my outburst.

Unsure of what to do next, I turned and walked away quickly towards the bathroom. But not before I heard that Connor asshole make yet another snide ass comment. "And she just leaves your side without permission? Boy you've got your work cut out for you with that one."

Not wanting to hear Archer's response, I moved quickly towards the bathroom, knowing he'd be hot on my heels in no time flat, and no doubt giving me a piece of his mind for my outburst. Rounding the corner, I hit what felt like a wall of muscle, and hands reached out to steady me before I fell backwards. Looking up to apologize, a sense of terror took over as I saw just how big and scary this man in front of me was. He stood at about six-foot four with jet black, hair and had a jagged scar that ran down the side of his face with piercing pale blue eyes staring back at me. Not able to hide my fear, the words just seemed to stumble over each other on my tongue as they came out. "I-I'm... so... sorry, I didn't m-mean to run into you like that." Trying to get around him and away, he didn't say a word, but wrapped his hand around my elbow, pulling me back to face him, drawing a gasp of surprise from me.

He looked me over for a moment before he finally spoke. "You know you shouldn't be running around this place by yourself, you never know what kind of bad things can happen to a pretty little pet like yourself in here."

My body froze at his comment and I hoped he wasn't that bad thing he was warning me about, but then I heard Archer's voice come into focus. "Get your hands off of her. She belongs to me."
