By the time, he fills me with his cum, I’m shaking so hard I can barely stay upright. Liam pulls out, and my body sags. Without hesitation, he sweeps me up and sits with me cradled on his lap. I’m crying again, which I didn’t even realize.

“All right,” he says, kissing the top of my head as his arms tighten around me. “That’s enough rough stuff. We understand each other now, right?”

My arms slide around him as I cry against his chest. “I did miss you, you know,” I admit between jagged sobs. “I was just trying to do what I thought would keep our baby safe.”

“Yeah.” He kisses my forehead. “You did your best, but now it’s time to let me take care of both of you. Understood?”

I nod.

“Good girl.”

CHAPTER16

LIAM

Olivia’s quiet the next morning, and I leave her to her routine. At eleven, when the little guy’s fast asleep, she knocks on the door to my study, which is ajar.

“Come in, Liv.”

“Morning.” She presses her lips between her teeth and looks appealingly vulnerable doing it. “What about school and work? I just got back to work after almost a year of not having a job. If I take more time off, there might not be any jobs for me later.”

“So what? You don’t need to work, and I don’t want you to. I’ll open a joint account for us with a couple hundred grand in it. You can buy whatever you want for yourself and the kids.”

Her hand flutters up to her forehead and says in a frustrated tone, “We only haveonechild.”

“For now.” I stand and move closer with the temptation to touch her building.

“I want more eventually, too, Liam, but it’s not fair for you to make me have another one right now. I want to concentrate on Brady. And school, now that we’re back in Boston.” She bites down on her lower lip, drawing my eyes to that mouth.

As I take her upper arms in my hands, I anchor her in place. I like having a hold on her. “I’ll be thirty-one in February, Liv. I want more kids with you, and I don’t want to wait.”

“If you were in such a rush, why didn’t you come looking for me? Or just marry someone else?”

“I was always coming for you, Olivia. It just took some time to get things settled here.”

“I—you mean even if I hadn’t had Brady?”

I nod. “Brady’s the icing on the cake. You’re the cake.”

Her hand pushes against my shoulder. “Don’t be sweet. I’m mad at you.”

I arch a brow.

She leans against a file cabinet. “We’re not even married.”

“We’re going to take care of that as soon as I can arrange it. The church has requirements, which delays things, but I may be able to get around them.”

Her small fists clench. “I haven’t said yes.”

“So, say yes.”

“You are freaking me out,” she says breathlessly. “Meeting you and having Brady turned my whole life upside down. I was just getting back on track. Can we slow down?”

“Define ‘slow down.’”

“I can’t yet. I need at least a week or two to get used to living here.”

“How about we let nature decide? If you don’t get pregnant right away—”
