His reputation was notorious. He was known for his lack of human emotions. It was as if he’d been born without them. And, like me, he also had a thing for removing body parts. But he wasn’t as selective as I was.

He shrugged. “Just serving the boss, so maybe he’ll toss me a body instead of Mila.”

One side of my mouth twitched. He was fighting with his sister-in-law over people to torture like children fought over toys. I knew who would win that fight. Mila’s viciousness was something I’d learned when we were teenagers.

“I’ll see if I can sway it in your favor.” Matteo’s smile was crooked as they took their seats.

This new truce among the families was still strange to me. Especially considering the permanent nerve damage on Matteo’s face was caused by Maddox’s father. But it was a new world now, and if the Vancinis could help me get revenge, I was happy to play along.

“We’re looking for a dancer,” I said after drinks had been poured.

I slid my phone across the table, showing Maddox the picture of Britney. She was wearing a short black dress. Her hair teased as she snuggled to Gio’s side. Zara had provided me with the image.

“Don’t know her.” He answered as he took a sip of his whiskey. “We haven’t hired anyone new in months.”

“Not at Silhouette?” Matteo asked. Since I’d been gone, the Vancini’s had added a high-end burlesque club to the line of businesses they used to launder money.

Maddox’s brows came together as he glanced at the picture again. “Hold on.”

He stood for the table, opening the door, he whispered to the guard. After a few seconds, the guard left. Maddox rejoined us. Quietly sipping his drink. Matteo and I exchanged a glance as we waited.

A minute later, the door opened again. This time, a petite blonde walked into the room. She had a shy smile as she looked around. It was clear by her outfit she wasn’t a stripper. Her dress wasn’t conservative by any stretch of the imagination. It stopped just above her knees and was sheer across her stomach. However, the girls out there wore nothing but lingerie.

“Mia amata.”Maddox’s entire demeanor changed as she moved to stand by his side. His face looked alive as he yanked her wrist until she sat in his lap.

I wasn’t Italian, but I wouldn’t have made it in this life if I didn’t speak it. I just never expected someone as evil as Maddox Vancini to call any woman his beloved. The giant diamond on her finger caught in the light as she placed a hand to his chest. I guess she wasn’t any woman to him.

“Kincaid, this is Mila’s brother,” Maddox told her as he pressed his face into her neck, not caring that they had company. He smiled as she shoved him away, extending her hand to us.

“Matteo, I’ve heard a lot about you.” Her expression was genuine as she shook his hand. Even I could tell she radiated goodness. Someone like her had no place being this comfortable with three killers. “How’s your wife?”

“Well.” Matteo nodded, a small smile playing on his face. “Thank you.”

“Twins.” Kincaid’s nose wrinkled as she shook her head. “Scary.”

I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped my chest. She thought kids were scary when she sat in the lap of one of the most ruthless mafia men in the city. I’d once seen him cut off a man’s finger because he touched his car. Maybe this girl was crazier than she looked.

“Congratulazioniperilvostromatrimonio!” Congratulations on the wedding!Matteo exchanged pleasantries. But my body felt itchy to get to the reason we were here.

“Grazie.”

“Mila said it was quite the party. I saw the pictures in the paper.”

“That was my favorite part.” A sadistic smile crossed Maddox’s face as he gripped the back of her neck. “It pissed off Kincaid’s father seeing the daughter he didn’t want on the cover of the society pages.”

I shot Matteo a look of confusion out of the corner of my eye. He answered my unspoken question. “He’s the disgraced Senator Collins.”

Hmm… we used to work with the senator, but getting rid of him had been part of the deal when the Vancinis and Gallos made a truce. I guess now I knew why.

“That was your favorite part?” Kincaid snapped, glaring at Maddox like he wouldn’t kill her for speaking out of turn.

But to my surprise, he pulled her closer, burying his face into her neck again. “Second favorite, little dove.”

She blushed as he whispered in her ear. I cleared my throat. I wasn’t jealous when I saw happy couples anymore. But it did remind me I’d rather be home with my woman than in this strip club. And the reason I’d been kept away from her for so long.

“They want to know if you’ve seen this woman at Silhouette,” Maddox said, pushing the phone to her.

She picked it up, staring at the picture of Britney. “Working or a customer?”
