Well then, how could she argue with that?

“I need a favor though,” Alec said.

“Of course,” she quickly said. “Anything.”

“Please kiss me.” He smiled. “It hurts when I move.”

She laughed softly, bent over and kissed him.

Knowing this was the beginning of a bright future full of hope and love.

EPILOGUE

One month later…

Alec’s parent’s fortieth anniversary party was wonderful. The eldest Monroes brought a tear to her eye as they reaffirmed their wedding vows.

Alec had made it clear that he intended for her to be a part of the family sooner rather than later. His impatience made her laugh. And to her surprise and relief Shannon had been thrilled with the news of their engagement.

After Dr. Juran had started her on medication, the numbness and tingling in her hands had disappeared. Oh, she knew that her multiple sclerosis wasn't going away that easily. But being with Alec, had taught her to take things one day at a time.

She had given the same advice to Lacy. Lacy and Eric's case had gotten a little boost when they offered proof of Nelson's blackmail in the form of several text messages. Lacy was still guilty of stealing, but Jillian was confident that Nelson Collins would take the brunt of the fall for his role in what happened to Daniel, Ricky and the others.

Life was good. She had taken the first steps to change her focus to study neurology. She was determined to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Alec supported her one hundred percent, and she was helping him study for the sergeant’s exam, too.

Later that evening, she and Alec finally had a few minutes alone to themselves.

“I've missed you,” he murmured, holding her close as they swayed to the music. “I can't wait until we're married and living in the same house.”

She wound her arms around his broad shoulders. “Me, too.”

They had practically worn a path through the park going back and forth between each other's houses. Not staying overnight or anything like that, because she wanted to wait until they were married. And to make sure Shannon was on board with their relationship.

“Are you sure you want to get married in three months?” She thought he'd lost his mind at the pressing to get married so quickly.

“I’d marry you next weekend, if I could.”

That made her laugh. She pulled away to look up into his eyes. “I have some news.”

“Yeah? Good news?” Alec dropped a quick kiss on her lips.

“I think so.” She’d had several doctor’s appointments lately that he didn’t know about. “Dr. Juran reassured me there's no reason I can't have children. That despite how both my mother and I have come down with multiple sclerosis doesn’t mean our children will be affected.”

Alec stopped, his gaze locked on hers. “Are you sure? Because I don’t want to take a chance on your health.”

She nodded, unable to keep from smiling. “Very sure.”

“That's it,” Alec muttered giving her another quick kiss. “We're not waiting three months. We're getting married as soon as possible.

“Alec, don’t be ridiculous.”

“I'm not.” His gaze softened. “I love you. And I'll wait, if you want me to. But I say the sooner we get married the better.”

“I love you, too, Alec.”

“Does that mean you won't make me wait?”

She laughed. “I won’t make you wait. Because I want to marry you, as soon as possible, too.”

“I’ll hold you to that promise,” Alec whispered. “No backing out on me now.”

“Never.” She wouldn’t back out. Because she couldn’t wait to become a member of the Monroe family.
