I can tell that he genuinely believes that. Did he not know his son at all? Or was he that stupid to turn a blind eye to all his son did?

“Considering he was found with his dick out and me unconscious under a pillow he held over my face, I have to disagree.”

I asked Daniel the other night, as he held me whilst I cried after another nightmare if Leo was known for being violent.

“Leo Rossi was a piece of shit, princess. I’m not just saying that because of what he did to you, but because of what he did to many men and women. He used his place within his family to do what the hell he wanted and believed he was invincible.” Daniel ran a hand over my head as I leaned into his bare shoulder. “I wish I could take away the damage he did to you, physically and psychologically, but I can’t. All I can do is reassure you that he will never be able to hurt you or anyone else again. He is gone, and I only wish he had taken this pain with him.”

I look at the clock on the wall and see it’s nearly eleven at night. I’ve been here since just after two. They haven’t mistreated me per se, just kept me tied to a chair.

“Sir, they are here.”

We both turn to look at the guy standing in the doorway. My heart starts to race. Would Daniel really hand my brother over after all they have been through? Do I want to be saved if it means losing my only family? My eyes burn with tears, and I quickly blink back. No matter what, I will not lose my brother. If Rossi thinks he can kill him, he has another thing coming.

“Sullivan and Lawson are the only ones who enter. You know the drill, strip them of any weapons,” Rossi declares, taking a few steps towards me. The guy mutters a simple “Sir” before leaving the room.

“I know it’s not pleasant, but it will all be over soon enough,” Rossi says before nodding at the guy behind me. His arms come around me from behind. I notice a tie in his hands and realise he means to gag me. I clamp my mouth shut, but he wraps it around my mouth and holds it at the back of my head. He pulls it so tight I don’t have a choice but to open my mouth against the pain. The tie slips into my mouth, and he ties it to ensure it doesn’t come loose. “Just sit there like a good little girl, and all this will be over with soon,” Rossi grins as he pats my knee. I try to move away from him, but there is nowhere to go.

I sit silently, watching the door, desperate to see that my brother and Daniel are okay and wondering how we will get out of this mess alive. Would Danny hand over his best friend to save me? Would my brother let him? So many fears are flying around, each breaking my heart in its own way. I can feel my eyes burn as a lump forms in my throat when voices come from outside the room.

The door opens as Daniel and Oliver walk in, looking far cockier than I feel.

Chapter Fourteen

Daniel

My eyes fall on Gabriella tied to a chair and gagged. It takes all my self-control not to kill every fucker in this room.

“Untie my sister, now!” Oliver growls beside me. I place an arm out to stop him from doing anything stupid. I look to Gabriella and force my jaw to unclench.

“Have they hurt you?”

She shakes her head, and I release that little ball of tension that’s been building in my chest. Her panties have been burning a hole in my pocket since I realised in my rush to tease and fuck her tonight that I left her with one less layer to protect her from Rossi and his men.

I turn my attention to Rossi, who is glaring at the two of us.

“I think it would be wise to untie Miss Lawson. Then maybe we can discuss this like gentlemen,” I dictate in my firmest voice. I stare at Rossi and know there is a real chance this will end in bloodshed; I need to ensure it’s not Gabriella’s.

“I’m in charge here, Sullivan. You will do well to remember that,” Rossi replies, looking rather pleased with himself. If he thinks he has the upper hand here, he is more deluded than his prick of a son.

“You may be the one holding Gabriella hostage. But I can assure you, you’re not in charge,” I warn. “This is the last time I will ask nicely. Untie her, now.”

The way Rossi smirks at me as he crosses his arms over his chest riles me up to no end. He’s already a dead man walking, but he is quickly turning the quick death I had planned into a long night of torture by my hand.

“What are you going to do, Sullivan? My men have your weapons; you are powerless here,” he mocks. I shake my head and walk around the table. One of Rossi’s men stands in front of me, grinning as he goes to stop me. I grin, throwing a punch so quickly he doesn’t see it coming. As he lifts his arm to hit me back or clutch his bleeding nose, I grab it and twist it, forcing him to turn his back to me. I kick him behind the knees and watch his legs buckle underneath him. The second I know he is going down, I release his arm, grab his head and break his neck. He drops to the floor, and I turn to see Oliver detaining another of Rossi’s guards, having taken his gun.

Rossi is staring from me to the guard on the floor. His face has paled considerably, and I know he’s less sure how this endeavour to kill me will play out.

“I am a fucking weapon, don’t make the mistake of forgetting that.” I walk to where Gabriella is tied up and undo the ropes holding her. As soon as she’s freed, I help her to her feet and stand in front of her. As I expected, Rossi lifts a gun and points it at me. I squeeze Gabriella’s arms in my hands for a brief second to ensure she is there, safely behind me. I’m happy to stand between her and any bullet that may come her way.

“I’m not going to kill you; I plan on letting you live so you can get a message out,” I tell him as I feel Gabriella shaking against me.

“And what’s that?” Rossi asks through gritted teeth.

“That using Gabriella to weaken me will not work. She only makes me stronger, as there is nothing I’m not willing to do to protect her.” I look at the gun pointing at me and allow a menacing grin to spread across my face. “You might want to lower that gun. The last thing you want is to shoot me.”

“Oh, I think it’s exactly what I want to do since your right-hand man killed my son. I’m going to kill you both.”

“But he didn’t kill him.” I stand even taller as I push my shoulders back and look Rossi straight in the eye as his phone rings on the table. “I will tell you who did right after you answer your phone.”
