“This is the main office for security. All the CCTV is monitored from this hub, as well as the staff panic buttons. There are two on each floor and in toilets in case of emergency,” Chelsea explains as she leads us into a reasonably small office filled with CCTV screens and computers. “There is also a small room though here which you can interview people in should you need to, but you can also just detain them until the police arrive, whichever your guys think best.”

I look around and see that some of the equipment here is old and could probably be upgraded. I can’t imagine Young would know the slightest thing about what this stuff should really do.

“Has anyone else used this stuff since Taylor?” I ask clicking on a screen to check if the cameras move.

“Only agency. The O’Reilly’s offered a few guys to help, but Mr Young refused. Said he didn’t want to put on them when they have had such a rough time.”

Sounds about right. Geralt Young took it personally when Jasmine was kidnapped three months ago. He had told the O’Reilly’s they could trust the man who turned out to be the one who kidnapped her in the first place.

“How long have you been Geralt’s PA?” I ask checking through the data on the screen.

“About two hours.”

I spin around to stare at her as Drew laughs beside me.

“I’ve been filling in for his previous PA for the last few weeks whilst she handled a family emergency, but she called this morning to say she wouldn’t be able to return, so Mr Young hired me.” Judging by her face, she still doesn’t quite know how to process the change in circumstances.

“Well, congratulations on the promotion,” Drew says with that charming smile he saves for the women he likes. I have to stop myself from rolling my eyes at him. He is such a flirt when he wants to be. There again, who can blame him for flirting with the attractive woman in front of us? She’s beautiful. Not only does she have the petite body of a supermodel, but her shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes shine as she smiles at us and makes me weak at the knees. I’ve already checked her hand for a wedding ring and see nothing, but I know that doesn’t mean she’s single. I remind myself that she works for a client, which puts her out of bounds. Which is just bloody typical. What are the odds we sign up for a dating app and a woman lands right in front of me?

“Yes, congratulations,” I add, quickly flashing her a smile.

“Thank you, both.” I watch as her cheeks flush and stop myself from groaning out loud. Fuck, this woman is going to crack me wide open with how adorable she is. What the hell? I haven’t been interested in the opposite sex for so long that I thought I had lost my touch. But here I am with a semi, over a woman I can’t even have.

We sat in Young’s office for an hour reviewing the quote we gave him for his needs. He seems to be happy with everything and has just left us to look around and check out everything he has in place already. I know he will want to speak to me privately about the other things he will need security for, but I imagine Chelsea knows very little of the other side of Geralt Young.

“Will you both be working here occasionally? Or do you hire people in?” Chelsea asks as she leans against one of the desks whilst crossing her ankles in front of her.

She looks every part the PA, in her pencil skirt, high heels and blouse. She’s wearing minimal make-up which is still more than she needs. She has a natural beauty you don’t see in women often these days. She’s one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.

“No, we have people who work for us. We employ and train them to ensure they are suitable for the job; we manage, not work,” Drew explains beside me.

I watch Drew and Chelsea as they start talking about the different services we offer and how we train our employees. Both seem comfortable around each other, which is why I wanted to bring Drew today rather than Logan. Drew is great with people, and you can’t help befriending him. In comparison to Logan who is a little less approachable. If he can speak to people face to face or via text and email, the electrical version wins every time. He has already told me he would rather focus on the training side of the business, which I’m more than happy to agree with.

What Logan doesn’t have in communication skills, he more than makes up for in his fighting skills. No one can fight better than Logan. I have seen the man take down four or five of the enemy on the ground with nothing but his fists on more than one occasion. He is a machine when he gets going and trains harder than anyone I know.

The office door opens, and Geralt walks in smiling. Chelsea quickly straightens up and looks slightly less relaxed than she did a moment ago. I can’t imagine Young being a demanding boss, but if she is still new to the role, then she’s probably still trying to impress as much as possible.

“Sorry for the delay. My daughter called, so I had to speak to her quickly.” He stops beside me and looks at the computer screen. “What do you think of the equipment? Is it up to scratch? Taylor said it was fine, but …” his voice trails off as he thinks of the guy he thought was a lifelong friend. I place a hand on his shoulder and squeeze it, hoping to show that I understand. He gives me a slight nod, and I remove my hand before focusing back on the screens.

“I’ll be honest It could do with an upgrade, but I’ll get our tech guy to pop in and look into that to be certain. From what I see, I think it’s okay, but he will be able to tell you more.”

Taylor nods and turns to Chelsea.

“Can you work out a date and time that he could have a look at it all?”

“I’ll send you my email address and direct number so you can arrange it and let me know,” she says, looking between me and Drew, obviously unsure of who to address. Drew pulls out a business card from his pocket and hands it to her with a smile.

“This is the best email to get us all on. The office number is there, too. It is always directed to one of our mobiles out of hours.”

She takes it with a nod and scribbles something onto a notebook she has had in her hand all morning, which she writes little notes.

“I’ll send over everything later this morning once I get all your details on the system. Can you send me licence numbers and documentation for the team who will be working in the building so I can get them onto the system and login details and so on?”

I pull out my phone and open my planner.

“I will get it all to you as soon as I get back to the office,” I reply, adding it to my to-do list for the day. Chelsea gives me a list of other things she will need, photos for their passes, etc. I add it all to the list while trying to act as professional as possible and not stare at her lips and how they move when she speaks. I’m also struggling with the way her perfume floats in the air around us, so every time she moves just slightly the scent gets stronger, pulling my focus back on her, and nothing but her.

Fuck, I need to get out of here.
