Why were two people asking if he was fine in the space of ten minutes?

“Are you sure?” asked Felix.

“I’m sure.” Rainier was tired and hungry, but he wasn’t going to tell his Kitten that. He was here to enjoy himself and be spoiled, not worry about Rainier’s problems. “Do you want to do the fair again tonight? They’ll be leaving tomorrow.”

“Yeah. Maybe they’ll do a different play.”

“I wonder if the card man will be there.”

Chapter Fourteen

Felix knew his eyes weren’t tricking him, and it hadn't been the angle of the sunlight in the library that made Rainier’s face look thin. He had definitely lost weight, and he’d already been skinny before.

When Felix thought back over the past months, he realized he had never seen Rainier eat even once. The Prince had to go to lunch and dinner with his Mum, and she’d be infuriated if he invited a whore to the table, so of course, they never shared those meals.

Rainier never ate breakfast which Felix hadn’t considered too odd. Some people were like that, but he never snacked either. Felix sometimes felt like eating something small in the afternoon or after they went riding in the morning. Rainier sometimes even asked him if he wanted food and seemed intent on making sure his Kitten didn’t go hungry.

The Prince never ate anything around him. They’d gone to the Berries and Ballads a few more times, and Felix didn’t count wine as a snack. If he tried to share something, Rainier always said he wasn’t hungry. Even at the fair, he hadn’t bought himself a pastry, skewers, or anything. He drank plenty of water, but that was it.

He’d thought the Prince was one of those types who had trouble gaining weight, but he hadn’t expected to see him lose more. His cheeks were getting hollow, and Felix had noticed some of his shoulder bones in the back were more visible. His ribs were countable, and his hips jutted more than a few months ago especially when he laid on his back.

He seemed fine and had energy since they did activities together so Felix wasn’t sure if he should be worried or not. Sick people usually didn’t have much energy, right?

Two nights before their trip, Rainier did him slow and soft in bed, brought him to the brink three times, and forbade him from cumming. When he finally allowed it, Felix couldn’t have kept from shouting even if Rainier had offered him the whole treasury and all of the cacao nibs in the Kingdom.

Still naked, they fell asleep afterward. Felix woke up first in the morning and sat up. A loose, long black hair clung to his arm, and he plucked it off. Rainier was still asleep on his back with one arm flung out. The strain around his eyes usually smoothed out when he was having fun with Felix or when he was asleep.

It was often there when he returned from meals or doing something on his own.

Felix stared at his body for a moment. He was fine with skinny or even bony, but honestly, the Prince didn't look healthy to him.

He decided to wait until he was eating breakfast since he didn’t want to hound Rainier as soon as he woke up.

Rainier sat on the couch and read while Felix ate next to him. Even with his coat on, he looked too thin.

“Hey, Rainier.”

“Hmm?”

“Do you feel alright?”

Rainier lowered his book. “I feel fine.”

Felix bit his lip. “You’ve lost weight since we got together.”

Rainier squinted. “I don’t think I’ve lost anything.”

“Maybe you haven’t noticed, but I do,” said Felix. “I don’t think it’s healthy to be that skinny.”

“I feel fine,” said Rainier. “If I did lose anything, I’m sure I’ll even out again.”

“But I’ve never seen you eat.”

“I’ve never been that big on food.”

Felix held out his plate. “Maybe you should have some breakfast.”

Rainier leaned over to kiss his cheek. “It’s yours, Kitten. Food in the morning never sits well with me.”
